I got a free Schick Quattro Titanium in the mail last week. It sat on the bathroom countertop for several days, until I finally decided to give it a try yesterday. I'd gotten off my regular shaving routine over the long weekend -- shaved Sunday evening and skipped Monday, so by Tuesday morning there was a fair amount of stubble, that I was dying to get rid of. It seemed like a good time to put the new blade to the test.
The razor was nice and heavy and felt good and sturdy in my hand. The head is bulkier and at more of a bent angle than the Mach III, however, and I found that made it feel a little more difficult to use. The blade didn't seem to pivot as well over the curves of my dome, making it a little more difficult to keep the blade in constant contact with my scalp. It definitely had an entirely different feel than the Mach III, and by the end of the shave I was thinking that I really didn't like it. But when I was finished, I rinsed my dome and ran my hand over it. It was perfectly smooth, as if it had never had any hair on it at all. I was impressed. I tried it again today, with only 24 hours worth of stubble to shave, and was equally pleased with the result. It still doesn't feel as comfortable in my hand as the Mach III, however.
I have no idea how much the refill blades cost; the decision about whether to continue using the Quattro may come down to that in the end. For a while now, I've been a bit disappointed with the shaves I've been getting with the Mach III. Ironically, as the hair on top of my head has thinned out and become more baby-fine, it has become more difficult to shave. It still feels rough after using the Mach III and I have to go over it several times to get it smooth. Not so with the Quattro. The Fusion got it perfectly smooth, too. I got a freebie Fusion in the mail a while back. I liked it but refuse to shell out the $$$ for the refill blades. I've never tried the Mach III Turbo blades. Maybe I should get some the next time I need to buy blades. I wonder if it is any better than the regular Mach III.
Decisions, decisions .....
