Schick Quattro Titanium
« on: May 30, 2007, 06:13:32 PM »
I got a free Schick Quattro Titanium in the mail last week.   It sat on the bathroom countertop for several days, until I finally decided to give it a try yesterday.  I'd gotten off my regular shaving routine over the long weekend -- shaved Sunday evening and skipped Monday, so by Tuesday morning there was a fair amount of stubble, that I was dying to get rid of.  It seemed like a good time to put the new blade to the test.

The razor was nice and heavy and felt good and sturdy in my hand.  The head is bulkier and at more of a bent angle than the Mach III, however, and I found that made it feel a little more difficult to use.  The blade didn't seem to pivot as well over the curves of my dome, making it a little more difficult to keep the blade in constant contact with my scalp.  It definitely had an entirely different feel than the Mach III, and by the end of the shave I was thinking that I really didn't like it.  But when I was finished, I rinsed my dome and ran my hand over it.  It was perfectly smooth, as if it had never had any hair on it at all.  I was impressed.   I tried it again today, with only 24 hours worth of stubble to shave, and was equally pleased with the result.  It still doesn't feel as comfortable in my hand as the Mach III, however.

I have no idea how much the refill blades cost; the decision about whether to continue using the Quattro may come down to that in the end. For a while now, I've been a bit disappointed with the shaves I've been getting with the Mach III.  Ironically, as the hair on top of my head has thinned out and become more baby-fine, it has become more difficult to shave.  It still feels rough after using the Mach III and I have to go over it several times to get it smooth.  Not so with the Quattro.  The Fusion got it perfectly smooth, too.  I got a freebie Fusion in the mail a while back.   I liked it but refuse to shell out the $$$ for the refill blades.   I've never tried the Mach III Turbo blades. Maybe I should get some the next time I need to buy blades.  I wonder if it is any better than the regular Mach III.

Decisions, decisions .....

Blades for the titanium are expencive! for the same price as the titanium blades (sorry, a dollar more) I went and bought a Gillette Fusion. It works a lot better, 5 Blades, then the one persision blade on the back. Plus, The titanium blades have these wires in the front of them, which makes it hard to rince.

Edit- The prices are more expencive out here though. And, even though the fusion blades are more expensive, they give the closest, and best shave ever, plus they last longer to me.

Great review, Razor.  Definitely have me intrigued to give it a try.

Thanks for the review. I received one of these, too, from some promotion and I tossed it into my shaving kit as a backup when I travel and forget the Mach 3 or if the Mach 3 blades get dull. Will have to get it out and give it a run. Don't they make a (gasp!) disposable version of this also?

I used to use Quattro on my face, but found it harder to rinse clean and as a result the blades wouldn't last as long.  So, I went back to the Mach III Turbo (green one) and have used it since.  I liked the Mach III on my dome and found it to contour well to my head just as it does with my face/neck.  The Quattro replacement blades are pricier (though not by much) than Mach III,

Thanks for the review RazorX!
