jon...welcome to the site. This site will help with any questions and there are many people on this site that can share similiar experiences with you that will help...

I was thinning and it increased rapidly over a short period of time, I was young and upset and depressed all at the same, wondering what people thought of me, especially women, and it took over my life it seemed. I tried all of the tricks, rogaine, propecia, and even wore a "piece" to hide it, and after yrs of still being self-contientious about how it looked and if it was detectable, and if it would come off. It made matters worse, not to mention the $$$ that was wasted. I decided to take it off and sport the "sly" look, and I honestly can telll you that I am extremely happy that I did it and wish it was soooner. I finally realized that I am more than my hair or lack of it. You will too in time, trust me. I am very happy with where I am in life and am getting married to a beatiful woman in Sept., she loves my look and convinced to shave as well. 100% support.

My point, you are young, and it can be tough if you let it, it is not in your control so to hell with it. The look is normal these days and you see" slyness" everywhere, so you won't stand out, you will look confident and accepting of your situation...don't worry about being teased either, I am sure you have good friends that will help deal with that BS.

You look good and your head is shaped for it, take time to get used to it, and concentrate on more important things

Good luck and welcome brother!

Is it weird for your head to feel tingly when you jog? maybe its the sweat and breeze going into the nicks but it kinda felt refreshing.

Jon....one of the many great things about shaving is the feeling of the breeze on my head. Before deciding to go sly, I tried the other alternatives for many years ( Rogaine, hair systems). Wish I could have gone sly instead and saved a bunch of $$.  You will see over the course of the next few weeks what a good decision you made. You probably won't be the only sly guy in college.
By the way, don't forget the sunscreen!!

Hey jon92388. Wait until you drive with the windows down! Enjoy the new feelings and live in the moment of them. Do some different facial expressions in the mirror, throw some shades on, discover yourself, and be confident who you are. People will take notice, and the positive will outweigh the negative.

It's a new lifestyle rolling without hair.  I'll tell you what though, it takes some serious confidence to walk about with your head shaved.  That confidence will begin to attract the right people ;).  You found a solid support group if you need a squad to lean on.

Jon

You are a handsome young man.  Be confident and well groomed.  Without the thinning hair there are no distractions so people will take notice of your face, give them a nice smile and you will be fine.  Get to know everyone here and ask for advice at any time.

it's just hair man.   different people like diff things, no different with the people who compliment the bald look to those who dislike it.

just roll with the punches and people won't bother you about it.

Jon ...a few tips on being sly...wear dark colored clothes...dark blues and black shirts...it goes great with the sly look......get a tan(totally optional)...go to a tanning salon if you can ..that way you can control the time exposure and tan gradually without burning......five 10-15 min sessions is plenty for a base tan.....then the rest of the summer wear sunscreen on your head...........hit the gym! hit the pool for some laps,go joggin..enjoy being able to be active, sweaty or wet without having to worry about your hair looking right..

and the most important thing to do.. is listen to your female friend who says you look better and really good, trust me on this one...ALOT of women love Sly guys ....don't listen to an immature high school friend who doesnt understand what losing your hair slowly can do to a young guy....your going off to college and becoming a man...go out there with confidence.

last tip....read every post on SBG's..theres tons of great info here on being sly.
VIVA LA SLY REVOLUCION!!!

Dude, it looks good...you've got the big guy with a bald head thing goin' now! O0

It's too early to make any reasonable judgements...live with it shaved smooth for a month straight...then see how you and others feel about it...

betcha end up diggin' it..and listen to your one girl friend, she's got good taste! ;)

Thanks for all the support. I feel better now. As for working out and stuff I usually walk 8-10 miles a day and do other things. I have really high cortisol problems that I never knew about until 3 months ago. Which basically made it like no matter what I did I only gained weight.  My doctor could not understand. I have perfect health besides for being over weight. I am always active, I drink plenty of water and, always eat right. My doctor is helping me to correct this and in the last 3 months I lost 35lbs. Only 65lbs more to go until I am at my goal weight for now. When I reach it I may want to loose about 10 more lbs

The lay-days always can tell. Trust me she would tell you if you looked bad. You look good Jon. Keep at it for at least 30 days in order to get an honest idea.

Jon, Welcome.  It appears that you have totally taken control of your life and are doing all the right things.  You are a good looking guy and really rock the look to be sly.  Before long you won't even remember what life was like with hair and will only be concerned with keeping that dome gleaming.  Stay strong, and you will be fine.  Don't worry about any reactions from high school friends.  Most people lose touch with those friends.  Many of your friends will lose their hair too and will probably struggle for years trying to deny it.  You, my friends, have taken the bull by the horns and have rid yourself of all those years of torment.  Just read the messages on this forum about people who wasted a lot of years worrying for nothing.  I guess I'd better stop now.   b!@h
How is that Hopey / Changey thing working for you?
