Anyone into men’s fragrance?
« on: June 25, 2012, 06:13:43 AM »
Does anyone here enjoy men’s fragrance, colognes, perfumes, Eude Toilette (EDT) etc?

I have launched this topic as I am crazy about the stuff, wearing it daily regardless of where I am or what I am doing.  I even apply a squirt to the back of my bald head after applying it to the other parts.

If so, what do you like?  What do you have in your wardrobe?  Do you have a “signature” scent?

If this topic takes off I will expound more.

A little Polo or Aramis and I'm off to the races.

Haven't used any in 30+ years ... but I'll be watching this thread in case it's time for a change - not that I'm unhappy with the status quo, but I'm always open to new adventures.

I am huge into men's fragrances. I find that the whole process of picking them out depending on my mood that day is really enjoyable. I have about 20 different fragrances from designer 100$ bottle to drugstore 10$ bottles. Also like to collect the bottles, amazingly enough a lot of men's fragrances become discontinued, and I find that you really need to stock up on eBay if you love a scent. Stock up ASAP or the prices will skyrocket. There is one from Gap that I really love called Grass, I've been hoarding that one lately as the price on eBay has doubled in the last year, probably just less and less of it around. My signature scent would probably be Escape, from CK.

I wear cologne on a daily basis & have somewhat of a variety from Ice Blue by Dolce & Gabana, Eternity, Nautica, & my new found fave is Polo...love the way it smells! It seems like almost everyday I receive comments from the ladies about how good I smell. I'm happily married but if you're not hitched & you're looking for some help with the ladies I'm sure his would help. JMO

I gag whenever I get near someone wearing cologne. So no, I don't wear any myself.

I wear only when I head out socially ... not at work.  I have a scent made for me from a place in Boulder.  It's a combination of two scents ... "Verses" plus "China Musk."  The combination makes my own signature scent.

I'm very picky when it comes to fragrances since most of them smell the same to me (with most of the fragrances, I can only smell the alcohol). So my current list is limited to only 2 fragrances: Annayaké Pour Lui (for evenings) and Dsquared2 Wood For Him (for daywear). Every now and then I pop into the perfume store to sample 2 or 3 new fragrances but most of them turn out to be very generic.

But most of the time I don't wear any fragrances, not even deodorant (just on very hot and humid days). Even my shower gel is fragrance free.

Here is an edited article I wrote as my profile information on another site, www.fragrantica.com, where I am a member and which I also enjoy writing and reading.

I believe I am very fortunate to be gifted with of a sharp, sensitive, tuned in sense of smell. I don’t mean to blow my own trumpet, but it is true! My sense of smell has always impeccable.  Whether I am able to correctly or accurately discern or describe the different accords and or notes in perfumery, only time will tell. This is of little consequence as my nose allows me to thoroughly enjoy the countless natural scents that “Mother Nature” birthed. Perfumery is all about the momentary sensory stimulation that stays with you forever.  For me, smelling good is a very personal part of the enjoyment of civilized life!

This ability and sheer curiosity (largely credit to the internet) has magically “allured” me into the world of scents.

In terms of smell (and taste) I also have a deep appreciation for good pipe tobacco, borne from a different world of smells, notes and tastes.

By pure accident, I developed a renewed passion for men’s EDT.  As a novice perfume lover I see it as an exciting new interest for me. (“New is beautiful”)

Everything about perfume catapults me into a fantasy world. It transports me into my past; it raises expectations of perceived future pleasure.  Certain perfumes are therapeutic, often lifting my mood.  I am fascinated by the different “houses” the different perceptions, even the catchy logos, labels and attractive bottles lure me deeper into an introverted fascination that is difficult to boldly describe.

This site (Fragrantica) has opened up another world for me. (If I may say so this is a well crafted web site which deserves extensive popularity and praise.) There is no doubt that I am attracted to the idea of buying, savouring, wearing and writing about perfume.  The whole experience is a little addictive!

I developed adoration for cologne as a 17 year old. Endlessly amazed at the age old mystical effect it had on me, friends and my loved ones, I have always kept a small stock of EDT, some cheap, some expensive.

Like so many, I have had the privilege of living a thousand fantasies and carved even more memories from the sheer joy of using perfume.  Of course, compliments are a natural dopamine booster!  As a youngster, I never had the luxury of the marvellous internet to cultivate and share this passion.  The internet inspires me to engage with others who have similar interests.

I have already started my own little collection and I intend to add one more at least every month or two.

March 2012

Some of the perfumes in my collection include:
Paco Rabanne – One million
JPG- Le male (Don’t care if it is extremely popular, I love it)
Hugo Boss Bottled Night
Carolina Herrera 212
Carolina Herrera - men
Chanel – Allure Pour Homme (Awesome juice!)
Aramis Life
Ted Lapidus – Pour Homme (Cheap, but a long-lasting clone of YSL – Kouros)

My next purchase will be Paco Rabanne, XS, “L Excess”)
After that it will be Givenchy – Play intense.
Then I might settle for some Azzaro Chrome

It never ends….

WOW Waine!! That's wordy!!  :*))

I'm a simple guy with simple tastes.... a nice quality, old school, inexpensive scent works great for me. I find that the more expensive colognes, etc. tend to be too "heavy" for me.

Hi there Mike.  I was trying to break away from falling into the temptation to post mono sentences ... ;)

I guess we all have our little "passions" this is one of mine...

PS, It was a little long winded, so I edited it.

Cheers

If they're not too strong I like them. I'm currently using Stetson Black.
Hair is over rated.
