Can You Have Shave Head Bald With Hair?
« on: June 13, 2012, 03:43:04 PM »
I went to haircut place 2 weeks ago and they shaved it off and used #2 clippers. My question is can I shave it totally bald with that length? Because I wasn't sure if thats too long and would it shave easily? I was thinking of going back to haircut place and get #1 and shave it at home but to me it might not be worth wasting almost $15 just for them to shave a tiny bit again. If I can shave it with my length is there any tips how to do it so it doesn't pull hair and shaves smoothly? Also I am pretty sure you can shave it but since theres hair I don't want to get cuts and need advice.

Shaving might be difficult at your present length. Might be best to get it cut as close as possible and have them do the first shave.

Have it clipped to a #0 (no guard at all) and you'll have a much easier time of it.

Yeah, what they all said.

Have the barber trim it with no guard. Then come home and shave it yourself, taking your time and going slowly.

Although it may not look very different between "no guard" and "shaved" it will feel incredibly different. I look forward to that smooth feeling every morning!

I know! I kept my hair clipped with no guard for 20 years before I decided to shave it down. I was completely amazed by what a difference it made in the feel of it. Seems like there wouldn't be that much of a difference, but there is!

It must definitely be cropped short with the clippers to a number 0 before you go sly as correctly stated here.  Even with it so short, you may still pick up a few nicks and gashes with the first shave.  My first head shave was a blood bath. I cannot imagine shaving bald with a number 1 crop.

I think every man who enjoys self grooming and changing their appearance by way of facial hair on or off, or just to control hair growth in general, should invest in a pair of clippers like the "Wahl".  This gives you the option of experimenting with your hair length.  Perhaps you may want to have a number 0, or number 1 look, you may want to trim a beard or moustache.  The hair clippers always come in useful.  I have been cutting men’s (and boys) hair on the side (as a hobby) for about 28 years now, a skill a learned at boarding school. Therefore, my Wahl owes me nothing.  It is still going strong – a reliable little piece of machinery.

For $30 or so, you can buy your own wahl clippers at Walmart.

1. Take the guard off. Clip your own hair down to nearly nothing. Then shave it.

2. Keep the clippers and use them, with a guard, to trim your beard each week.

They last for years. Beats paying the barber, unless you need some pampering.

You do want to clipper down as short as possible prior to shaving your head.  No guard and with the shortest cut, if our clippers have adjustments between guard settings. Go with the shortest. Makes the shave easier.

I already owned clippers, had been doing my own hair for years. Definitely take it down without guard, take a shower and wash your head well then lather up and shave it. GO SLOW, since your scalp is not used to it, then rinse with cold water. There is a big difference between clipped w/o guard and shaved. Hope this helped, Good Luck  O0

Agreed. I've happily owned Wahl clipper since 1997. Obviously, it doesn't get much use now. But occasionally pals come around and use it to clipper their own hair.

Cool Mr Jules, that is pretty much what I use it for these days. The trick is to keep it well oiled before and after each cut.

Which of the Wahl clippers would you personally recommend? My hair grows pretty quickly, specially on the sides.

This. Shaving from a number 2 for a novice, would be abit of trouble and a good chance of razor burn/bumps from all the faffin.

Definitely do it with no guard, It will be a much more pleasurable experience, it will minimise your risk of cuts, razor burn and anything else that could go wrong. Just remember, when you pick up that razor, that it slow and steady and you should have a hastle free experience.

As for the comments on getting your own clippers, I think it is a great idea. there has already been a couple of times recently, that I have gone almost a week without shaving and need to knock down that stubble to make it easier on my headblade. I think it is well worth the investment!
