I try to avoid appearing in public with my glasses:

The problem with that is you can't try them on and see how they look and feel before buying them.  Or have someone adjust them for you.

I didn't know Walmart sold eyeglasses, but i suppose I shouldn't be surprised since they sell pretty much everything else.

Actually, at www.zennioptical.com you can upload your face photo (front view without glasses), they let you identify your eyes, and your PD, and then the scale an image of the glasses to fit the photo Pretty slick.

You can give it a try with some of their stock photos, or upload your own.  what will they think of next.

I would not go anywhere without my glasses. Every thing, close and far is blurry.

I'm not really sure why. I suppose it's a case of too much Clark Kent and not enough Superman.

There is some glasseswhich do look good sly some do not , quite like the idea of gold rimmed ones , but yet to find ones which really suit me

Late to the party. But I understand Razor's frustrations.

Rectangular frame don't suit me either, and when I got my most recent frames

the optician referred to them as "retro" frames.

On the other hand, you're a really good-looking guy Razor, and the glasses don't detract from that one bit.

Hey Razor, I reckon you could pull of some thicker frames no problem! I look way nerdier in thin frames. But in saying that, I like your frames, classy look.

I guess I am too fussy about frames but I really have a hard time finding ones that I like.  Glasses are not cheap and there's nothing worse than buying a new pair and then discovering afterwards that you don't really like them after all.  I did end up returning another pair a couple of months ago; they were returnable within the first 90 days and I took them back on Day 89, but that was mostly because they were uncomfortable and not because of the way they looked.

I started wearing glasses when I was four years old.  Thick frames were the only option in those days, considering that the lenses were still made of heavy glass and thinner frames weren't sturdy enough to stand up to handling by a young child.  To this day I have an aversion to those kinds of frames.  Some people look good in them but I don't like them for myself.

The main issue for me, vis a vis glasses, is that frame glasses as compared with contacts--they're just too inconvenient--they get in the way.  I have got my "glasses" and I use them to read after removing my contacts in the evening.  On extremely rare instances I'll wear the glasses rather than put in the contacts, but I see better, I'm more comfortable, and I have less hassles with contacts.

I agree. Contacts allow a wider range of vision and I wear them whenever possible. But I do go through periods when my eyes get too fatigued or irritated and I just can't handle them.

I can totally understand not wanting thick frames for that reason. I only started wearing glasses a few months ago (I can't believe how long I went being blind) but I didn't even consider contacts because of the fact that glasses added to my facial contrast, and made me look a little more professional. I think both of you suit being free of glasses, but then it's nice to have the option I guess.

I like the rimless frames or 1/2 rims as they block less vision. The rimless are also very light and comfortable.

Online glasses are much less expensive. I've had good success with them.  www.zennioptical.com. When they are about 1/4 the price you pay at the eye doctor's place, the eye doctors price is just not competitive. I'm OK with "buy local" but only to a point.  When there is a 4x markup to buy local.  That's too much.
