Agreed! I'm a huge fan of my Ray-Ban Clubmasters (seen in my profile picture). I chose them specifically when I was thinking about going with the shaved head. I like these particular frames because they're very much of a 40s-50s-60s style that is really coming back right now (in large part due to Mad Men fame).

Snap ! I have chosen a very similar pair of Ray Bans. I liked their retro look.

They should be ready for collection during the next week.

they don't darken in a car - car windshields block the UV rays needed to cause the darkening,

Funny you should say that - I know somebody else who says exactly the same thing, as you ! Don't drive myself, so don't notice that drawback.

Agree with you - they take ages to go back to normal when coming indoors. Still, other than that, I do like transition lenses.

It's a big drawback for me partly because my daily commute has me driving into the sun at various times of the year either going to or coming from work (sometimes both ways!)  I had to get a pair of prescription sunglasses anyway.

I tried them years ago but they were next to useless in the car.  I looked into it again not too long ago thinking that they might have resolved that problem but apparently not.

Prescription sunglasses are the way to go for driving or similar outside/inside activity.  I had a pair of prescription Ray Bans that I got at a Lenscrafters store.  Loved 'em.  However, they got bent up and I tried to get another pair, but the stores stopped carrying that model.  Pity.

I have an old car with no UV film in the windscreen and my transitions darken up pretty well, and I've found that if they get really dark outside, then you get in the car, there's enough to keep them dark. But I've also heard from new car drivers that the superior UV protection in their windscreens affects the transition.

I use a pair of lightweight prescription glasses on Nike frames for reading (got them on right now), sometimes I wear them to work or when I'm out and about as they balance out my look somewhat... more professional or more geeky depending on what I'm wearing. Never looked into getting contacts because I'm unbelievably squeamish about getting stuff in my eyes, plus glasses are lower maintenance all round.

Funny though, now you reminded me how my dad - who's been wearing transition lenses as far back as I can remember - started complaining about them "no longer working properly" just after buying a new car a few years ago ;D

Lol, indeed .  This happens to all of us as we mature get the wisdom and go blind !  I wear contacts for the most part and carry my readers along.  When out in the sun wear my Ray Ban's which are valued at $160.00 over amazon , I paid $27.55 with tax at a Wear it Again Sam, store.  Also have a pair of Rx glasses with photo gray !  Keep my head shinny and with sunscreen , and look good.

Those are some killer new frames, Mr. Jules!  I'll certainly look into Ray-Bans if/when my prescription changes and I need some new frames.

Thanks Lynchy. Like the transition effect of the lenses when in daylight. And to think that I'd never grown any facial hair before joining SBG. So another thanks to the forum. :)
