Is shaving your head a good stress reliever?
« on: March 23, 2012, 01:44:39 PM »
Today, I shaved my head for the first time in six days....got busy with work, tournaments, bad weather, et al...On Tuesday night leading into Wednesday morning, I had a throbbing headache. Figured my blood pressure was up so I took my medicine. Head continued hurting and blood pressure remained high through Wednesday and Thursday, but I felt so bad I was too lazy to shave. Finally, I just got up this morning and said "Fudge it, I'm shaving" (head was starting to itch anyway). Thirty minutes after shaving, headache goes away, and blood pressure returns to somewhat normal...This is not the first time this has happened, but it's mighty interesting that I get the fewest headaches and high blood pressure readings when I am freshly shaved....Sounds a little weird, but does anyone else experience this?

I always feel great after shaving - never miss a day, even if I wake up feeling a bit grotty. The only way to start the day O0

Absolutely.

Got home tonight - a Friday night - head was a stubble mess. Had a shave. Felt so much better. Good focus.

Indeed a stress reliever. In fact it is my time. First face then head.... a true zen moment.

Yes it is as a Buddhist I like to shave before my practice of diamoku and gongyo ,its not a requirement to shave my head as far as buddhism is concerned .I just feel better when I practice .

I think, that as men, we often don't take the time to "pamper" ourselves. Yeah we take the daily shower and shave but never reaally the time to ENJOY either.
I'm guilty of this during the week. Out of bed, immediately into the shower, and 25 minutes later out the door I go.

So I make up for it on the weekends. I take a nice long shower and REALLY get a nice shave while in there. There is no sense of needing to "rush" to get out the door and start the day. I also tend to the goatee on the weekends too.

I think Harry's case is a perfect example of how taking a little quality time for ourselves is so healthy.

I have an African American friend who essentially shaves his head. He says that if he lets his tight curly hair grow to much of any length it gives him a headache.

As far as a stress reliever ... I think it is a relaxing time (unless I'm in a hurry to get it done and out the door --- that's not normal for me).

As Mike put it....we DO need to spend some time on ourselves when given an opportunity.....I guess a lot of us bald guys the thought of going back to hair would give us a headache!!!

Very much so.  Sometime I let it grow for a day or so, so I can hear the Head Blade doing its thing.  Then the cold water rinse; exhilarating!

You speak my language.  :)

I love the sound of the HeadBlade ploughing through that stubble.  Cold water rinse. Then feel that a scalp so smooth you can hear it squeak when you run your fingers over it. And the stress just goes away.

Can't agree more. Nothing like a little extra time in the morning for hot shower and a nice pampered shave. A relaxing shaving to me is using a scrub, taking the shaving a little slower and with more passes to make sure the rough spots become smooth. A good rinse down with a body wash.
