Hey guys,
My name is Will. I'm 24 and my hair has been thinning for about 3 months. I'm pretty sure I noticed it right away, but either way I get the impression that it's leaving me fast, maybe only a couple more years tops. It's definitely hard being this age and losing it, mostly because I feel blindsided and it didn't fit into my life plan haha. I live in a big city and notice the tons of guys close to my age and older that have lost their hair, so I don't feel odd or an outsider, but it was just the card I was dealt. I'm here looking for support, and hopefully offer support to those as well.

I'm definitely worried how it will affect getting women. I am definitely not the most confident person, but have been able to get by on appearances thus far. I am fearful that this will hurt my confidence more. Also another main concern is how my old high school and college friends will react the next time they see me, which might be when it's all gone. I know life moves on, and this could be a great thing because it will push me harder to prove myself even more. Part of me thinks that I will like being bald, but part of me is afraid because it is so final, and if I don't like it, too bad because it's staying. Finally, the one area that I never want to be held back is professionally. It is an area that physical appearance should never matter, so I am worried that the lack of hair could be the difference from a promotion or being hired for a new position.

I've had a shaved head before (2 guard)  and liked it for the most part, but I always knew that I could grow it back. I had recently considered buzzing it again since I had grown tired of my current look, but now I am much more hesitant knowing that this time, once it's gone, it's not coming back. I don't plan on shaving my head right away, and possibly keeping my hair for another 6 months to a year getting my thoughts together. I know confidence is key, and most will offer that as the main weapon and solution for moving forward, but any other comments would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome aboard! It would be easy for us to say go ahead and shave it off, but the best thing to do is do it when you know you're comfortable with doing so....as you know if you don't like it, it will always grow back...As odd as this seems, I have been getting lots of respect and friends (of the opposite sex) since I started shaving my head bald almost four years ago. Sure I get the occasional joke, but I've even gotten promotions at my job that I didn't get when I kept what was left of my hair...Most important, be yourself. People care more about the substance in your head, not what's on your head. Good luck!

Your friends will probably make some stupid comments but don't let that bother you.  They just won't understand completely, you have to give them the benefit of the doubt.  Trust me, in no time, it will be a part of you and no one will remember you with hair.  I did it when I was 20 years old so it was tough for me at first too.  I got the cancer and Mr. Clean comments but now I could care less what people say.  I look good and I definitely get a lot of women.  If you have any questions just send me a message, I know how tough it can be at the age we're at.  It's tough at any age, we get to deal with it young and live a happy and accepting life.  After all, it is a part of life.

Welcome aboard. Take your time, don't pressure yourself. Enjoy your hair while you still want it and you still have it. Shave your head when you are ready. Best regards.

Dude.... if your biggest concern is meeting women, you can put that to rest. A lot of women LOVE bald men. Remember women love all types.... just as men love all types. When it comes to women, it's ultimately about YOU, not your hair.

Hey Will,

Welcome to the site.  Glad you found us.

All of your concerns are reasonable and understandable, but if you follow this site for a while you will read about lots of guys who have been where you are and now have embraced their baldness.  It actually, I think, is a confidence builder.

Bald guys get along well with women, get promotions on the job and feel confident in life.

Best of luck to you.

Will, welcome.

Take your time. Get to know some of the guys here. Read through the posts.

I've been on a little over 6 months now.  I've been clippering my hair shorter and shorter and ready to shave two weeks from today.  (plan to do it with a buddy who has been shaving bald for years and encouraging me to go bald also).

Take a look around you.  Bald guys are just about everywhere.  It's a very acceptable style these days.

Guys,

Thanks for all of the posts. Deep down I know everything will be fine and that in time this won't even be an issue. But it's getting over the hump that is the hard part. This is definitely still a shock, so dealing with it is still hard. I realize that it doesn't matter to other people because they are worried about their own lives, but understanding that and believing that are two different things.

I'm definitely worried how it will affect getting women.

Welcome Will. Good to have you along. This is a very supportive site and I think you'll like it here.

If a woman is 'hung up' on your hair or lack of hair, look for someone else.  I good woman will look at your personality and the spirit within you, not your physical appearance.  Are you kind, considerate, ambitious in an appropriate way? Much more important than hairstyle.
