Tattoo design.

Hey guys

Thinking of having this design which was drawn up by a friend tattoo'd onto my neck.
I'm not naive when it comes to tattoos but have just the one currently so i guess you could say i'm a novice.
Already been to my preferred tattooist and he plans on tweaking a few things.. The lettering, the Eagles positioning (awkward wing angle) etc, but otherwise he seems happy with it.

Anyway thought it would be good to get some feedback, positive or negative on the design.

As with any tattoo, you want to be sure before you go ahead and feedback is always helpful!

Ok, could you elaborate?

Is it the design? the imagery? the font? the quote? the colouring?

Or is it all of the above!?

Bare in mind this image has been drawn with a marker and then coloured in with pencil, so the two don't blend as well as they would when done in ink.

Tattoos are personal. Don't be asking anyone else's opinion. If you like it, get it.  What's right for me may not be for you.... and vice versa.

And yes I'm tattooed.

I don't like it as a whole. I have no ink at all but thought about getting a tattoo representing something that means a lot to me...just in the process

But I fully agree with Mikekoz, this is a personal thing and you have to be happy with it. If you get that ink you know its for the rest of your life so be sure to do it, which I don't think you are at all

Think long and hard about getting anything in a location as visible as your neck.  Under a shirt etc is one thing but out in the complete and contimuous light of day is a whole different story.  Do you really want to spend the rest of your life with this design visible to anyone that looks at you?  I'm not saying don;t do it....I'm sayign realize this is PERMANENT and not something that will be under clothing etc.   It may seem great at your current age/employment but in 20 years??

I'm not inked but am considering it and have plenty of buddies who are.   One common thought is to have them placed so you can conceall them under regular clothing when that is what you want - and there are times you will not want ink to be how folks make their initial judgement of you. 

The basic design is pretty good however the artwork is on the crude side - it needs to be sharpened up and the proportions etc cleaned up.

I agree with Sailor!  While I don't have any tattoos, my wife has one and I have many friends with ink.  Please avoid the urge to tattoo any part of your face or neck.  I know that many young people are into large tattoos on the neck but those markings will definitely (right or WRONG) affect their ability to obtain employment in the conservative white-collar market.  If you plan to get either full or half-sleeves you need to realize that you may be wearing long-sleeved shirts all year depending upon how your employer/customers view permanent art-work!

Why not put that design on your arm?  It could be the hub for a future sleeve if you become an ink "addict".

Man, I feel like a parent!  Just be good...or at least be good at it!

I'm pretty much inked up including neck, (many hours)...  but I do agree with Sailor & Mike13... It's your personal preference, what looks good to you, LOOKS GOOD TO YOU..! so be it... But on your neck (or any other spot you can't easily cover,  make sure you really like it. How big you plan to make this,,, lots of detail there... the more detail the larger it has to be, or you lose it and it becomes one big blur

I'll jump in wiht my second 2 cents worth and agree with Oracle.   That design would work out real well on your right upper arm.  Clean up the drawing of the eagle and get a sharper head on the coyote or wolf and it's a keeper.  (right now the coyote/wolf looks much more like a domesti dog - maybe a german shephard mix)

Sailor i agree that the wolf could well be a coyote or even a domesticated dog of sorts, so thats gonna need clearing up.
My tattooist has already noted the Eagles flaws so that should all be cleared up.

I'm interested to know what you guys think of the colours? Personally i'm pretty satified with the design and will be more so when it's been 'tweaked' But i do wonder whether theres alittle too much going on colour wise??

I have to concur with the comments about putting this on your neck.  It's likely to be visible no matter what you are wearing.  I suppose if you plan to have your entire body tattooed someday, maybe,  but I'd think I'd want to go with one that are typically coverable until you are way into the process before getting something on the neck.

I would imagine that any good tattoo artist can take the sketch as a point of reference rather than just trace that out and make the design pretty.

One thing I left out is that as much as I am comfortable with my shaved head, I do at times feel somewhat like a blank canvas.. I don't know if anyone can relate to that exactly but well, Hair is good for creating a style, whatever. As is facial hair, piercings & tattoos.
I'm not saying people need to find 'styles' to be individual, far from it.
But that it can be frustrating sometimes not to be able to shake things up once in a while.
I won't be growing my 'hair' back any time soon and much to my annoyance I can't grow much of a beard (maybe one day!)
Piercings I have tinkered with in the past but I'm not fussed really which leads me on to tattoos.. of which I am something of a fan.
I often think about what kinda designs might look good on my skull, but then after awhile the realisation kicks in that it's probably not that great an idea.
So that's how I've ended up settling on the neck, It would give everyone something  to look at (besides my head!) It would make me feel like I'm giving off a more 'interesting' vibe and would hopefully put an end to this 'blank canvas' feeling I can't seem to shake off.
Though as far as shaving goes, I'm settled with my sly dome. It's been well over a year now and it's looking to stay that way for a long, long time.

I have a few tattoo's as well. My 21 year old daughter also has MANY tats. I have asked her ONE favor. PLEASE don't tat anything you can't cover up with nice clothes.  NO NECK, FACE, HANDS. I vote the same as the others. Keep ink off the neck.  I've talked to enough people who have said they love their tat's  but hate the ones on their necks. ALSO, I don't think you can laser remove them off the neck. PLUS the neck is a MAJOR sara of exam for doctors, if you (God forbid) got cancer or other health issues older in life, they couldn't do MRI's and other medical tests that require access to the major arteries in the neck through tattoo's.  I think that tat would look AWESOME on a chest or shoulder blade.

You'll do as you please, as will I and others, just maybe listen to those who have gone before you.

The "blank canvas" feeling comes from being (I'm guessing) early 20's.  It's what's ont he canvas inside that matters and makes for an interesting person.  I doubt anyone worth meeting will be attracted to you by a neckk tat - in fact it may well be quite the opposite.
