Just accetped being bald

Yesterday i finally accepted that im going to be bald. Im 28, black and a soldier in the US Army. my hair has been thinning since i was 24. Ive been fighting myself on weather or not i should go bald for last 2 years and yesterday i finaly accepted it. I went to the barbor shop and told them to give me a number 1, which in a military barbor shop is basically as close to cutting it all off as you can get without using a razor. My scalp is a little lighter that the rest of me so i know i need time to let it even out. I was curious to know if anyone on here uses hair removal cream. I tried to shave my head a fews years back and i had a bad reaction and had a break out all over my head. I also have a large scar on the back of my head that im a little sensative about putting a razor to. I wanted to know if anyone can suggest a good hair removal cream that is effective and last for a few days at a time...thanks for the help guys

I recommend using the search function for your questions if you already haven't...because there is a good chance that your questions have been asked before in another thread, unfortunately I can't remember which one or ones...

Welcome Sergeant.  As Arnie has said there are have been posts concerning hair removal creams.   Generally there has always been a bad skin reaction/burn when used on the scalp.   I would definitely NOT RECOMMEND using one.  The best option is still a good close shave with a good razor and shave cream designed for the head.  You might want to try using Headslick or the Bald Guyz gel.   Both are excellent.

Stay away from hair removal creams.... they will burn your skin. I too recommend a good shave cream or gel. HeadSlick or BaldGuyz gel. Two great products. Don't cheap out on your blades either.

You can minimize irritation with a good shaving routine and good products.

Avoid that Nair! Somebody posted a vid in here about some young guy who passed out and got "Naired" by his friends while he was unconscious. It looked like he had an acid bath on his dome. I mean you could see meat!

I go with the other guys as far as the Head Blade or other high quality razor and high quality cream. I use Head Slick because I think it's the best. Might I also recommend a few drops of Shave Secret oil applied to the scalp before you apply the cream? That really reduces friction.

With regard to your concerns about the scar have you given any consideration to an electric? I have a Panasonic ES8243K which gives a shave that is just about as good as a blade. It is a wet/dry so it can be used with creams or in the shower. The wet/dry thing also makes cleaning easy. This comes from a line of shavers made by Panasonic that are called "Linears". The forum's expert on these is Simply Red, he has a number of posts concerning the Panasonics and they are dead on. The chances of reinjuring the scar will be just about zero with one of these. They are on the pricey side but they last and are the best as far as electrics go. If you decide to consider an electric I would direct you to the Panasonic Premium Store online. They sell refurbished units in there, which I initially was skeptical about until a friend told me that a refurbished unit is nothing more than a new one with all the bugs worked out. The prices in there are considerably lower than normal markets.

Thanks guys...im gonna try a razor for a few days and get into a routine to see if that will help with any irritations

Welcome Sarge, and I will echo what the other members have said. Use a quality cream or gel and a good razor. HeadSlick and Bald Guyz Ultimate gel are the two tops, and I recommend using a Mach III to begin with, then as you and your scalp get used to shaving, you can try other blades.
If you're worried about irritations, stick to shaving with the grain the first few times.
