The Bird Whisperer
« on: June 11, 2011, 08:22:00 AM »
While on my morning walk, a few days ago, with my dog(Big Guy) I came across a Robin(Wisconsin State Bird) that was hanging from a tree like a bat. Some how it got fish line wrapped tight to its left leg around a tree branch.

I called animal control, but they don't assist with wildlife. So I got a scissors and my soon-to-be brother-in-law, Eric, saw what I was trying to do and got me a stool.

As I approached, the bird fluttered at first and pecked at my hand once. But as I lowered the branch and talked to it, it got really calm/still and let me put the scissors flush between its leg and that line...I thought to myself that this bird is going to gauge my eyes out, but I was determined to save it...and snip...

...it flew free in an instant.

My good deed for the day was done.

That is very cool. You definitely get a mark in the Good Karma column for that. Very cool!

That was very kind of you!  Animals have a special place in my heart.  Unfortunately many people would have kept walking...
