A stranger trusted me this AM.............
« on: June 10, 2011, 10:11:02 AM »
So this AM I drove about 45 minutes to a used car dealer that sells a line of Motorcyle cleaning and care products. I found these products on line but wanted to buy them from the local distributor because I always like to help the locsal businesses if I can.

When I got there they had a nice display of the products and an older gentlemen, the only person working there this AM, approached to help me. I picked out the three products I wanted and said to the man, "These are what I came for. I think that will be it".
He looked at me and replied, "None of the products have the prices marked and I have no idea how much they are". I aksed if he had a computer with internet available so we could go to the product company's website to get the prices. "No.... the girl that runs that isn't here and it's shut down".
I asked if he had a price list printed out somewhere. "No".
I then told him that I had called last weekend to make sure that they had the products and that I had just driven 45 minutes to come get them.
Then we started small talking about motorcycles and I asked if he sold a lot of these products. "No... and we;ve had them about a year. You'r e the first person that has come in looking for them... but we use them on all our cars and bikes. Good stuff". Then he said, "Come over here for a second". We walked to a desk, he handed me a piece of paper and asked me to write down which products I had and my name and phone number.
Then he said, "Take the stuff and I'll call you when I find out the prices. Then you can send me a check".

I was shocked and told him how much I appreciated this to which he said, "You seem like a good young fella".

Then he told me to follow him and he took me and my kids into his shop area and showed me the owner's custom BigDog cycle with the amazing skull paint job. My son was freaking out when he saw that BigDog!!

We chatted for a few more minute, I thanked him again, and off we went.
What a great way to start the weekend...... the 100% trust of a total stranger. Made my day....

You would likely enjoy being in Austin Texas this weekend.  Bike rally in the down town.  Many streets closed off.  Expect 40,000 bikers there.  I remember last year during rally time street or highways leading into Austin were filled with dozens of bikers.  i am not a biker however.  Austin hosts a number of rallies or festivals - the biggest one is ACL(Austin City Limits) Live where 1-200,000 attend each year.

Gotta be the sly head.  :)
The reason people find it so hard to be happy is that they always see the Past better than it was,
the Present worse than it is & the future less resolved than it will be.

Still some good folk out there

That's good to hear that there are great people that are still willing to do that.  Though, it really doesn't surprise me.

The reason I say that is that I think society has been given a bad wrap in the media.  You only ever hear of the bad things that happen, which for those that watch and read the news, it can really taint their perspective on people.  There are many studies that people have done to show that the majority of people in America are still very honest and even very generous.

For example, you are more likely to make a significant more amount of money when having a garage sale if you eliminate prices on items and ask people to give you what they think it's worth.  Restaurants and serviced based businesses that have tried this have also found that people will typically pay more for something than the business would have charged for it.
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.

I fully agree with you.  In general most people are quite honest.
