I've been having some issues adjusting to the civilian mind-set at work, after being put out to pasture (mandatory retirement).  :o

I came across the following, which I thought I'd share with any of you having a similar plight:

Wal-Mart Greeter

A new retiree greeter at Wal-Mart, just couldn't seem to get to work on time.  Every day he was 5, 10, 15 minutes late.  But he was a good worker, really tidy, clean shaven, sharp minded and a real credit to the company and obviously demonstrating their 'Older Person Friendly' policies.

One day the boss called him into the office for a talk.  "Charley, I have to tell you, I like your work ethic, you do a bang up job, but your being late so often is quite bothersome."

'Yes, I know boss, and I am working on it."

''Well good, you are a team player.. That's what I like to hear.  It's odd though, your coming in late..  I know you're retired from the Armed Forces. What did they say if you came in late there?"

''They said, 'Good morning, General.  Coffee this morning, sir?''  :o :*))

First, I want to thank all you veterans and actives for your service.  It's brave men like you that allow me my choice of faith, the ability to own a gun, and the freedom to say whatever I want!  I was raised with the idea that I was going to West Point on completing high school.  Had the grades and the connections... and the desire.  Grandpa was a CWO4 and had things "lined up."  Found out in my medicals that I  had heart issues. No go! So, the military in a weird way directly saved my life.   I decided then to still have a life devoted to serving my country, hence my becoming a teacher.  My eldest son Christopher is a US Marine, 0311 (America's answer to 911!!!) He just was honorably discharged on a medical (70% VA disability rating) and we just got his DD2-14.  He only served one year, but we are proud of him nonetheless.  He's way bummed (not to complete his enlistment and not able to pursue a career in law enforcent as was the plan!) He loves his corpsmen and still speaks reverently of them.  Again thanks!

Semper Gumby (Marine Parents: Always Flexible!)

Hey it happens, tell your son he did the right thing and theres nothing he could've done, God has another plan for him. He knows he will always be a Marine and his loyality will always be with his brothers. support him as much as you can ( and it sounds to me you are ) It can be difficult to adjust, especially for a Marine Grunt so do whatever it takes to stay proactive with him. I got a medical while I was at SOI after under a year and It sucks so I know exactly how you're son feels. Encourage him to enroll his but into some classes JC/or college this will get his mind off of things and he'll get some schooling under, go after that AOJ ( admin of justice ) or Criminal Justice Major, he still has a chance to make a difference, it wont be chewing dirt overseas but being a police officer he has a chance.....PM me if you have any questions.

United States Navy.  From 1963 to 1967
The only way to avoid the draft was to enlist
Never regretted it.

Shouldn't that be "Another Marine reporting sir, I spent my time in hell?" >:D

The Air Force Secret Service for me.  Enjoyed the work and people.  I served 1967-1972.  I really miss all my comrads.  Yes, we too had a special bond.
