SLY Betrayal
« on: January 08, 2010, 02:25:20 PM »
I've let the razor go no higher than about 3/4 of the way up the level of the ear since Christmas.  The bristle is growing out, although since it's white, I'm still looking (in the right light) kinda SLY-ish.  I'm aiming for about a 1/2 inch buzz.  Took out the earring, too.

"What's up (besides some hair)?" you might ask.  Nothing in particular, just my long-standing restlessness over hair/no hair, and so shifting from one mode to the other as the mood strikes me.

But, as "The Arnold" said in another context, "I'll be back."

No betrayal in my mind. In fact, over the winter months I sport a no-guard buzzcut rather than smooth sly.

It's your choice that's for sure.  O0

I decided to wear some hair lately to assist my job searching.  Unfortunately I have received some negative comments for being sly and after a year of unemployment, I felt that not being viewed as "extreme" might help my chances of finding a job.  We all have our reasons.  For me, once I am employed and past the probationary period, it's coming off again!  ;)

Certain demographics might consider it "extreme", I work part time at the local Police station and there's a couple officers that are sly and they do it because they are losing there here and that's the reason why. There was an officer from a couple town's over awhile back I talked to who is bald and he was involved in a physical altercation with a burglary in progress suspect, officer went hands on took him to the ground and the guy ended up with a gash and laceration in the face area because he made contact with the broken beer bottle that he try to use on the officer. Officer was asked to grow his hair out when he took the stand because he was white and the suspect was black, didn't want to be viewed as extreme or a hate crime, this country is going to S!@#. I know in the Marine Corps they never really cared that you razored your head, and now the Army is finally allowing soldiers to razor there head mainly because of Gen Odierno is a sly guy and not some "extremist" hairstyle........I've seen plenty of 0-4's above and old salties that should've just shaved whatever remaining patch they had left and called it a day.

Good lord.  In other words, he has to let his hair grow so that he doesn't look like a bigot to those non-bigots jurors who will prejudge the cop's entire view of the world based on his haircut.

I think it's an old throwback.  I remember when i first buzzed my head down.  This was about 10 years ago.  I very rarely in my circle of friends, aquiantances, and fellow employees have ever said anything racist around me.  But, this one time, just after I buzzed it.  I was coming home from a night on the town.  Stopped at a Turkey Hill Minimart.  The guy behind the counter started talking all this racist crap.  I stared him in the eye.  And said, "You're lucky it is 2 AM or you wouldn't have a job, bigot."  Then I left.  The only thing I could think of that made him talk to me like that was my haircut.  But, he was of a different generation...  Maybe he thought I was a skinhead, I dunno.

As for employment search issue.  You know, I actually let it grow out for a day or two before my interviews.  I did it almost subconciously.

And, back on topic, I don't think growing hair is a SLY betrayal.  I think it's changing up how you look.  Who doesn't like to do that?

Pretty much, California is the flagship for individuals with a distorted view of the real world, well actually it's right behind all the new folks over at 1600 Pennsylvania ave and that's all I'm saying.
