It was recommended to me the other day that I drink more water.  Turns out the approximately 8 glasses a day I was drinking is about half of what I need based on my size.  It's recommended by some to drink 1/2 ounce for every pound you weigh.  An easy way to figure this out is to take your weight and divide by 2.  This is the amount of ounces of water you should drink.

For example, if you weigh 200lbs, then you should drink 100 ounces.

How much water do you guys consume?  Don't include tea, coffee, and soda in your calculation as they actually count against your water intake.

I guess you answered my question T. I drink about 4 liters of Diet Coke a day. I guess that doesn't count.

I purchased one of these today from Walmart to make sure I get enough.  Two a day fulfills my quota...

Not nearly enough.  1 Bottle split between the drive in and home each day; some hits out of the water fountain and a glass at home each night.  It's not nearly enough to offset the daily coffee intake.

I try, but mostly miss the mark.  I keep trying to keep a bottle of water at the desk--but it's a goal to work toward.  Thanks for the kick in the b_tt to remind us. O0.

Being hydrated is one of the most important things you can do for your body. i have been a hydration freak for years.
If you feel thirsty, that means you are already a little dehydrated. Also if you are trying to lose weight.... hydration is a key component.

I drink almost no soda..... I do like a cup or two of coffee or hot tea a day..... but I drink water 90% of the time.

Tom.... that fact that it's diet doesn't really matter. I did a lot of reading on this a few years ago. The chemicals in the sweeteners in diet drinks actually change the way your body digests and processes food and drinks.
I asked a docor about this years ago and he said you should rarely if ever drink sodas but if you HAVE to they should be diet. He said he wouldn't even recommend them.... for the reason I stated above.

That's part of the problem with diet drinks..... they make people think they are OK when in fact they are not....... Don't believe me...... take a look around at all the really large people sucking down diet soft drinks.

The "eight glasses of water" idea is ... from some points of view, an "urban myth":

The amount of water (or other osmotically balanced fluids) one "needs" is extremely variable.

All I'd say is, "avoid the bottled stuff," since it's ecologically extremely unsound--the plastic needed for the bottles; the transport costs.  In almost any place in the USA, what comes out of the tap is just fine.

I get a lot of MY fluid from the pot of coffee I drink with breakfast and the milk, juice, and ... alas! ... the wine I drink over the course of the day.  Water as such--not so often.  I sometimes wonder if I sop up some through my skin as I swim my forty-five minutes 3X/wk.  That prostate cancer (at moment controlled) requires "priming the pump" with such things as Flomax, makes the guzzling of flagons of H2O not entirely attractive ... well, that is another matter.

His conclusion is supported by published studies showing that caffeinated drinks, such as most coffee, tea and soft drinks, may indeed be counted toward the daily total.

I haven't been drinking pop for 5 years now.  I actually crave water.  I drink 2 big jugs of water a day. My dad gave up his coke and went to water about 3 years ago and lost a bunch of weight.

I drink water thats it, no soda no fancy sugar laden beverages. I do however have a weakness for my local coffee house ( I drink my coffee black w/o sugar ) and yes once in awhile a pint of Stella, but I'm pretty sure that if alchoholic beverages where mentioned in this post there might be some concerns.
   I aim for about a gallon a day, water is the most important nutrient that you can put in your body wether if you're in the gym or just lying on the sofa. So many people come up to me a daily basis at work and tell me that they're tired or they can't think....instead of grabbing one of those sugar laden rockstar drinks down a bottle ( or two ) of water. You're muscles ( this including your brain and heart ) are compromised of predominantly water and tissue....what do you think is used to expand those fibers when doing hard labor or hitting the iron or for that brain to work and that heart to pump.....water. Plus higher water intake is good for Men that shave there heads, higer osmolyte balance means better shaves and better skin.  O0

I think they had the right idea in the middle ages. Nothing but wine. Water was for the monthly bath...LOL
