Twice a day shavers...
« on: June 29, 2009, 11:28:08 AM »
Hey Sly Brothers,

Here's a question.  I currently am a daily shaver.  However, I have hair that's dark and fairly thick.  I'm shaving at night because I really enjoy taking my time and getting my head totally smooth.  I don't want to rush through my shave during the morning.  However, shaving at night (around 10pm or so), by the time the early afternoon of the following day rolls around, I'm starting to get stubbly.  Having read through some of the threads, some guys here shave twice a day.  Does anyone have any tips for shaving twice daily?  I want to retain the smooth, shiny dome but don't want to irritate my scalp.  After all, there's nothing sexy about a blotchy, bleeding bald head.   ;D

Any tips?

Thanks in advance,

Frank

Yep - I often shave twice a day and it's never caused a problem.

Since you shave at night, maybe a quick once-over in the morning would be fast and do the trick.  Personally, I prefer shaving in the morning so that smooth feeling lasts throughout the day.

Try switching to a morning shave.  That way you have a smooth dome through the day and then at night only shave again if you're going to go out.

Yeah that's how I do it? Morning shave and then an evening shave if I'm doing something socially!
It's all about attitude!

Thanks for all the pointers guys.  I think I'll start with the evening shave followed by the morning touchup that slyatlast suggested.  Then I might switch it up and shave in the morning followed by the evening touchup that Tyler and Gary suggested and see what gets me smoothest.    O0

Just thought I'd give you guys a quick update.  I've switched to a morning shave and LOVE it!  My head feels smoother all day long and I'm loving the shine I get after shaving right out of the shower, applying my after-shave, moisturizer and finally my sunblock.

Here's what the dome looked like this morning after a fresh shave.

Thanks for the tip!

I was in a rush this morning and missed my shave.  I didn't shave sunday either because it was a "chill day."  I'm not gonna get home til 10pm  (it's about 530 right now) tonight and reading this makes me long for that smooth feeling!

That's awesome if you can shave twice a day.  I've tried that and after about a week I start getting bumpy.  I think I have a tendency to press down to hard on the razor though.

Great photo - you've got a nice shine going there.  I bet there were lots of gals in that women's clothing department who were dying to give you a headrub!

I"m a morning shaver myself. My prep and routine all start after the morning shower then I head right to the sink. Considering I train every day, I end up sweating somehow so I hop in the shower later during the day, or night and touch up in the shower.

I shave in the mornings. I might shave again at night if we have a special event to attend.

About 5 years ago I tried to get into the habit of shaving twice a day, and the results were terrible.  My skin just couldn't adapt to that much abuse and I had to give it up.  This was several years after I started shaving my head so my scalp was already used to being shaved.  It wasn't like I went from a full head of hair one day to shaving twice a day the next.  It's been a while so I forget the details, but I think I was getting razor burn and after I gave up I think it took a while for my skin to "forgive me" for that abuse and I had to actually skip shaving while I healed.
You don't know me, but I know you.

LOL!!   ;D  Actually, the place was pretty deserted.  No gals were present to give me a head rub.

Hey Peter,

This is pretty much the routine I'm following now.  It's working well for me.  I do a full shave at the sink right after I shower and then touch up later in the day.   :)

Glad to hear it's working well for you Frank. It's a very convenient routine in my opinion, saves me from a lot of irritation also.
