OK at first I had to say how in the hell did I miss this post...well I guess it was started way back in Feb of 2007 ..way before I even thought about shaving it.  Well I must say it is a definite improvement.  I dont mean in any way shape or form to hurt your feelings or anything but I really dont see a reason why you were always telling your barber/hairdresser ."maybe next time"  well I think that next time was long over due.  Glad you decided to take the SBG Plunge....best move you probably have made in a long time.

I hope I dont cop a  :x! for bumping, I still lurk now and then, but have had lots of crazy stuff going on at work in the last few months, this place has taken off like mad, so many new members and no dramas, kudos to the current admin staff.

Im still buzzing the zero with the clippers and it looks ok but not the best, I just cant commit to shaving yet, I have a very heavy beard and even after I shave I still have a grey shadow on my face, its basically the same with my dome, I only shave my face twice a week after letting it grow in quite a bit. Theres no way I could do that to my head every day.

On a cool note, in the last few months I have noticed a few guys I work with are starting to fret over hair loss, a few have started combing forward, some have even asked me what kind of buzzer I use, you would think I would find a question like that offensive but I didnt, I found it very amusing.

Im not totally  Sly, but Im happy with how I look and life in general is good.

I hope you are all well.

:/O  Wow!  2+ years shaving to a 0 and you cannot commit to shaving it with a blade?  I'm guessing that you're not married either.

Dude, I don't want to sound like an ass, but WTF?  Honestly buzzing to a zero is basically like shaving it all the way off.  No diff, really.  Actually, the difference is significant.  With a shaved head, you have no annoying stubble, you're horseshoe will be less noticeable, you'll be a lot cooler, and you won't get sh*t from SBG's like me.

Look at it this way, if you shave it all the way and you don't like (even though there are a few thousand SBG's on here that know you will love it), you just need to wait about 36 hours and you'll be back to a zero.  And by "zero", I mean no disrespect.

Do it!  Do it, now!   :Xo!

Okay, so I'm mostly joking.  However, I really cannot see any reason why you wouldn't have at least tried shaving it in the last 2+ years of buzzing to a zero.  Once you shave it, you're going to kick yourself for not doing it sooner.

You got the important part, i.e. happy with how you look--and determination and cautious approach are obviously strong points.  I had started worrying about it before you, but didn't think I should sign up till I "Did the Deed!" Loving it Sly too.

Honestly buzzing to a zero is basically like shaving it all the way off.  No diff, really.

While there is little difference from a visual standpoint, there is a huge psychological difference.  Having that little bit of stubble, no matter how short it is, makes us feel like we still have some hair.   What you are saying is perfectly logical, but emotions tend to get in the way of logic.  I can remember the first time I shaved, and the realization that I didn't have a single hair on my head made a huge impression on me -- but in a good way.

My road to slyness was a very long and slow journey.  It took me about two years of agonizing to even get my first buzzcut.  I started at a #2 and worked down to a #1 over a period of several months and stayed there for about three years.  I finally got down to a 000 zero and planned to keep it there for a while.  But the temptation to shave my head smooth proved to be too great, so the 000 only lasted about 15 minutes before it was replaced with a completely smooth dome.

The moral of the story is that we all get there on our own timetables.  That being said, I strongly encourage anyone who is comfortable wearing a zero-guard buzz to shave his head completely.  Do it on a Friday night after work and it will be grown back by Monday morning if you don't decide to keep it.  It's a fantastic feeling to run your hand over your head and feel nothing but smooth, bald skin.

Great way to try this--and if anyone here knows the trials and tribulations of going Sly it's RazorX, he did it w/o SBG--that would be really tough.

Another point you make is "daily shaving."  It's not one of the top concerns we hear from guys, but it is frequently mentioned.  I can't tell you how many times I was tempted to ask a guy w/ a shaved head if it was a lot of trouble--then I found this place and was assured that it was not only not a problem, most anticipated the morning shave.  That's where I found & still find myself--it's "my time" and a cleansing time.  When you walk out w/ a freshly shaved dome, well there just isn't going to be a better part of the day generally.  And the shadow--we all deal w/ that until the hair goes white or mostly falls out.  I had a tremendous bit of angst about it at first, that's passed too and I kind of like it now actually, it's a reminder to me and the world that I have dealt w/ mpb up front, honestly, without rugs, drugs or plugs.  Proper shaving methods will make it comfortable--check out the thread on shaving routines--lots of good stuff there.

Again, glad you're happy where you are, but try it clean, smooth, to the bone Sly, you'll like it I think, like it a lot.

It is also a lot easier to shave your head than it is to shave your face.  Takes a little while to get the hang of it, but once you do, it really isn't a hassle at all.
