Another "delicacy" I saw in the UK was the "Olive - Pimento - Cheese" loaf.  It seemed to appear at every breakfast.

that aint no English delicacy - sounds like spanish or Italian to me!
Ha!! you probably got served a 'continental' breakfast! lol

It came with the hotel in London!

I've never seen that served for breakfast in the UK, either.  Fried eggs, rashers, bangers, toast, and grilled tomatoes -- yes -- olive/pimento/cheese loaf, no.

My aunt in Ireland gets those olive loaves to feed to her dogs.  The guy who works behind the deli counter in the supermarket saves the ends of the loaves which people don't want to buy and gives them to her.

couldnt cast my vote because i DO know what marmite is, so couldnt vote 'what the heck etc'

But I've also never tried it.  Just the thought of it puts me off.

So I sorta DON'T like it, but I never had it!!? :D

Love marmite.  Especially on toast.  There was something about student nights out that always ended up with getting home and having the munchies.  Marmite on toast all round at 3 in the morning.
Vegemite just doesn't compare (I once saw an Australian spread marmite on his bread the way he'd spread vegemite and then look VERY surprised).

And I don't think it's turned political. I just mentioned three events that are likely to occur before I try vegemite / marmite / termite / or mightymite. John just decided to copy my incredible satirical wit (imitation is the sincerest form of flattery). No harm, no foul.

not imitation; God forbid; just contrary-minded dialogue

oh, and I hasten to add.... it's actually a very effective mosquito repellent. Mosquito's can
apparently detect it before even giving you a nip and hate the stuff too!  :px

Brewers yeast is supposed to have the same effect .
