I've shaved my head for 15 years and love the look.
I've started my own business and so not employed and want to wear ear rings.
Just think it looks good with the shaved head.
Is it too old ?

Not at all! I was 47 when I got my ears pierced. I'll be 51 next month and I still wear a diamond stud in my left ear.

60 years old and a 12 gauge captive ball hoop in each ear. A couple of people have expressed their unsolicited opinions over the years and I regard them as just that: UNsolicited. Which translates to "Who The F**k Asked You".
A lot of what we do or don't do depends on how much we value other peoples' opinions as opposed to our own. I don't really care too much about what people think of me (hence my language) but if I had a job that I really liked and the boss insisted that I ditch the hoops I suppose I would. As you are self-employed your only boss is the guy you see in the mirror. So do as you please.

We all have the right to our own personal style. If you want earrings, tattoos or anything else that some people consider to be wrong for your age just go for it. If questioned about my bald head, tattoos or my earrings I respond by politely telling them I look the way I want to look and it's not harming anyone and why do they look the way they do! I'm a bi-sexual heavy metal headbanger so most people that know me don't even raise an eyebrow.

I don't have any piercings (I'm really not a fan of the idea) but both my younger brother (21) and my father (mid-fifties) wear earrings. They aren't bald, and my mother judges my dad for suddenly wearing a ring again.
Personally, I think it's a little silly for my dad, but I think, hey, if it makes him happy like shaving my head makes me happy, all the more power to him (and others).
As someone who doesn't do piercings, I would just say not to take it too far. The sly head is a big statement already, so the stylistic choices you make (glasses, earrings) really need to be spot on.

I think earrings, especially with a bald head, look really good.
Even on dads in their mid-50s.
Bent barbells are my favorite.

I think a single earring on a sly guy looks pretty neat. Can't say I'm a big fan of gauging or double ear rings , however. In the end, if you feel comfortable, go for it.

Nope - 40 isn't too old for piercing your ears - or other things for that matter!
