@Hawk my slim is an L2.
The L is very faint and I only saw it when I was cleaning it the other day.

That is good to know. That means you got a 1966 Gillette Slim.

That's good. I think that as you improve your craft with it you're going to enjoy it a lot. Took me a little while to fully get the hang of it.

@Warhawk - Mel, I believe you, but when I look at it on two different monitors it looks like the razor is one colour. I'm not seeing any black on there at all.

@Goatee - That's great mate. Nobody ever developed perfect shaving skills after two or three shaves so stick with it!
Maybe try some different blades as well. Derbies are not well liked by a large number of people.
If there's nothing locally available, try Connaught shaving website. Great service and prices, and UK based.
Edit: Just saw on your other thread that you've ordered a sampler. Good idea. One thing I'd also recommend is that when you try a new blade, stick with your usual soap, brush etc. So don't go changing too many variables at once. That way, if you don't get a great shave you'll have a better idea why.

Razor: Merkur 34C
Blade: Astra Superior Platinum
Cream: Taylor of Old Bond Street, St. James
Brush: Vulfix Super Badger
Aftershave: Osage Rub
Just tried the Osage for the first time. Holy Cow do I love this stuff! Just the right amount of burn, and a tingle that stays with you, even after the menthol fragrance fades. This will definitely be a part of my regular routine.
