What’s a “comb over” & why?

You probably will not believe me, but I never really knew what a “comb over” was. Seriously. Until today, that is, when I Googled it. Well, I had an idea, but now I really know what it is. You will appreciate, I have never really had a serious hair loss problem, so I am not familiar with the terminology yet.
What hit me when I saw this excellent example was this; with all the money in the world, he cannot “buy” nice hair. He will never have a nice hairstyle no matter what he does. And he will probably never dream of shaving it all off. Can you imagine Mr Trump going sly? It made me feel free. It hit me, real sly guys are not bound by any stigma, any fear of ridicule, any emotional attachment to the belief that hair holds essential value in life.
I am still trying to get my head around the whole “comb over” thing. I would not dream of doing that. So, just to make sure, is the hair just “combed” over or is something attached to the bald spot?
It was an intriguing thought. The length people will go to try and maintain a look, albeit a false look that other people already know is false!
PS
I tried to post a pic, but I must still figure the function out.

You got it right.
It's just "combed up and over" the bald spot.
Especially unattractive if the wind is coming from the opposite direction and the "comb over" is trying to take wing away from the wearer!

Why do they do it? Well as a recovering combover, my take is you don't plan to have one. But as Mother Nature, the "Bi_ch" pushes the mpb, everyday you get used to covering what was hair a little while ago, until you have your moment, then it's shave time. I wish I'd had my moment a long time before I did--the only regret.

Just glue and a stiffener and hair grown long enough on one side to cover the BALD DOME
It looks like hell.
And guys do not realize it - who have done this - how bad it looks - - -I see a guy about 40 at lunch and he thinks no-one notices the "comb-over"

I saw a guy once who had what I affectionately termed a 'mr whippy', like the soft serve ice cream. I was in the park on a windy day, and the guy in front of me, who's hair looked distinctly trump-esque, was blown by a gust of wind, and his hair literally unravelled, it was one 4ft long 'pony tail' grown from his horseshoe which was then wrapped around his head ( I know this because he humiliatedly re-assembled his hair sculpture while bystanders look on in awe.

Since going sly, I notice other guys with hairloss problems more than in the past. The amount of combovers walking around in Cape Town is alarming. Who are they fooling besides themselves?

When I see comb overs, all I can think of is "don't these people own mirrors?"
How can anyone look at this and think it looks good?

I guess some men are so infatuated with their own hair that they will let it get to that point... I'll never understand. We can only hope at least some of them will be enlightened by this site.

Guys, I am really, really laughing at your comments.
@Mangosink, Your Profile picture is viewable on the forum. Cool man!
@Slyfive, that was funny! -- I pictured the scene perfectly.
@Balddoc, Yay, another South African on SBG! You know I must agree, since going sly I also notice more and more men with hair loss who try to rescue it with a few remaining strands. Looks hideous. Shame, I hope they see the light and abandon the futile battle. Cape Town has many sly guys hey? My brother lives there, he was my inspiration to go all the way.
@TheSlyBear, LOL, that pic is hilarious. Poor guy...
@NateDawg, I hope this site will convince these poor fellows to use their head and shave it ALL off. I like the fact that I may be able to encourage a “Comb over” sufferer to go come out of hiding and show us his dome. LOL
To the others, nice to meet you guys here, I this site is super!!

@Waine-Sorry it took so long, but welcome to the group! You think a combover is bad....Try a guy that's horseshoe bald with a PONYTAIL! I go to church with two of them and practically have to bite my tongue to keep from laughing...Making matters worse, one puts curl activator on his remaining hair including the ponytail...I only have two words for that...JUST STOP... just thought I'd share.

Thanks Sir Harry. I am starting to feel right at home here. Lol, that's crazy man. Horse Shoes and ponytail? Well each to his own I suppose.

Or even worse: the skullet! A mullet with no top!
Poor Jesse. He looked great when he was sly and mustached.
