I'm moving next weekend and have been a faithful Comcast user for years. Anyone have any experience with Dish Network? Any pros/cons of going with Dish vs Comcast?

I'm assuming Comcast is a cable provider, like Cox in NO. Cox sucked. We went to DishTV and have been very pleased. The recorder function is easy to work, dependable and a real tool to reorganize time to watch the better stuff. Our only issue is related to heavy thunderstorms. When a large storm approaches from the Southwest we lose our signal until the worst is past. But we always remember Cox disconnecting our service after Katrina after we returned to our house. We had cable, electricity and then those jerks came and disconnected us--system repairs, it was working and they fixed it? Because they never gave anything vaguely resembling a reasonable or consistent response to our service requests, my bet was and remains that their " billing system" needed repair and rather than have anyone getting service for free, they took the system down. What a bunch of jerks. It didn't come back up for 3 months, right after their facility was up and running.

I don't know about Cox but I have never had any problems with Comcast and I have neighbors with the Dish that have had similar problems with the weather.

Weather problems are passing, poor service, it's a Cox tradition
Never, I mean never will I ever deal with that bunch of schmucks again.

I have to side with cable. The internet is ten million times better. Plus I get all of the local channels with no hassel. I don't know your situation, but I can't pick up my local channels, but I am too close to get them on the Dish. And even if I could get them on the Dish they are Nashville stations and not True locals. The biggest draw back is the price.

Good to know that weather is an issue with dish. Since I'm in Portland where it rains all the time. I'll stick with Comcast. Thanks guys for the tips on the issues with Dish!

Regular rain, such as you generally get in the Northwest doesn't cause a problem--but "frog stranglers" with heavy, 1"+ an hour rates, do interrupt it. -

I used to have DirecTV and it would take a torrential downpour to make it cut out. Only happened a few times a year, about the same number of times that cable goes out for whatever reason.
What you really need to do is compare packages and see how much each one charges for HD service, DVR, and what channels are in tiers that require to pay extra. These companies are all very misleading with their marketing -- Comcast for example advertises that it has the most HD "choices", -- including every On Demand movie as a "choice" -- but in reality they offer far fewer HD channels -- which is what most people are more interested in -- than Verizon. Moral of the story: read all the fine print. -

I use AT&T U-Verse... while the quality and amount of service is about the same as both Comcast and DirecTV, the U-verse is so much better overall... whole house DVR, instant channel change (no delay when flipping channels), pause TV in one room and pick it up in another, etc.
If you can get it in your area, I highly recommend it! -

I second that! We have U-Verse and love it.
Though, AT&T cell phone service blows. -
