Hey guys, haven't been to these boards in a while since I haven't been bald since the end of October. My "horseshoe" hairline is as bad as ever and I really am thinking about going bald again tonight, but I have one issue that's holding me back.I was getting pretty comfortable being bald, but I did not like the way I looked with a goatee.I like being full bearded and right now want to grow my beard out and get a little length, like an inch or two. While I was pretty confident being bald, I was not confident being bald and full bearded...I almost feel like I look like a biker dude or something, and that's not how I want to look since I'm in the dental field.I recently took up Rogaine and Propecia, and I've started to shed a little bit and on top of that, I'm getting some minor side effects, so I plan on stopping that.I guess all I'm asking is some advice.I really wanna be bearded and bald but kinda afraid of rocking that look again. Thanks again

Okay, you're in the medical professions, you know how to look up side effects--if after looking up side effects that's what you want to risk, that's your issue.
But, unless some big "wig" here at SBG overrules me, our belief is still, NO DRUGS, NO PLUGS, NO RUGS--accept it, you're going to be a bald man--with or without a full beard. Personally, a full beard looks fine--if you have the genetics to do it. Or whatever beard your genetics and time in life [yes it changes as you get older] permits. But you're going to be bald--the drugs are just going to f__k up your body. It's your choice, but going bald isn't that is your future--embrace it or fustrate yourself. I've got a beard, I get compliments--a lot--and although I never could figure out how to have the full beard I've had twice before in my life, it doesn't mean it can't be done. But I can't & neither can you put hair on the top of your head. It's just not in the cards, so get used to it.

I think the way you have it in the profile pic. is very professional. However, why do you want to grow the beard longer.
I personally wear a very short goatee to try and hide my double chin. If it wasn't for that damn double chin, I wouldn't wear a beard at all.
For some reason, I hate the way a beard feels on my face.

Getting rid of the dying mop--20 minutes. Seeing what a beard can be--three months minimum, 6-8 months until it really comes into its own. I change mine from and inch to 5/8"--only about a month really. Different parts grow at different rates, and the density makes a difference too. You seem to have pretty good genes so you may have a nice looking growth at 3 months--just give it a chance to be what it wants to be.

well my first day being bald again has gone very well.I forgot though how stressful it was shaving people see you for the first time bald.I have to say though, that alone has made me certain I'm bald for life now.I hate that stressful feeling and now that I'[m semi confident being bald again,I'm just gonna become a lifer. All I have to get past now is letting my beard grow out!

Good attitude, constantly fretting over what the dying mop looks like is really tough on the attitude--detracts your attention from the business at hand. The beard will do its thing if you let it, it will be a little wild and unruly at certain points and "trimming" doesn't help. You just have to live through that. Meanwhile, work on your shaving skills, and have fun--the beard is only time, and that can't be rushed. And, w/ mpb just remember left to its own, a year or two from now if you did let it sprout--you'd be surprised how much has disappeared while "hidden in plain sight!"
Looking back through your posts, the pictures certainly confirm that you're headed to be a bald man, absolutely nothing is going to stop that. But, also noticed that it looks like you've never embraced the thirty day rule
http://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/index.php?topic=12256.0. Many here can testify to the wonders following that rule can work. It helps you get from, "Who's the new dude in the mirror?
" to "Damn that looks good!
" And when you're thinking of not shaving during the month, watch it again. It can be an effort, but at the end your shaving technique will have improved greatly, that beard will be coming into its own. You really need to do the thirty day rule.

What I see looks pretty good
.
As for a beard, as long as it's well-groomed, anything goes.

thanks everyone.Saintc, don't worry about the 30 day rule for me.I'm definitly permanently bald.I've never made it to thirty days before but I definitly don't plan to ever let my hair grow back. Its just a bad reminder i'm loosing it, and i LOVE the process of shaving my head!I feel the bald head and beard combo make me look a lot older then 24, but so far I'm loving it!As my beard gets longer, I'll post some update shots!

You look really good bald, up some more pictures. I can understand you wanting to grow the beard, if the bald head suits you a beard can go really well too but seen as your in the dental field I would just keep the beard neat and short, stubble or just past stubble, I think that will look good on you.
