HEAD SHAVING... A CHORE OR AN ENJOYABLE EVENT

Hi Sly Guys
Before I started to shave my head I heard a number of guys complain that although they liked the result they found the actual shaving a pain in the arse. I have not found this to be the case. I really enjoy the act of shaving and looking to see what the end result is even though I really know by now. The only complaint I have is that it is never as smooth as I would like even though I take considerable care. Do other slys agree or do they find shaving a realy chore? Incidentally, in my intro should have noted that I am from down under and wonder if there are other Ausssies in the sly group.

Good question. I have been shaving since the end of August. If I shave only with the grain then
it takes me about 50 minutes. If I want to shave with and against the grain it takes 75 to 100 minutes.
I don't know why it takes so long lol. Most of the time I am happy shaving because I like the results at the end.
I do have to admit though that I get angry when I see that after 40 minutes of shaving I have missed so many spots and have to keep going for another half an hour.
Let's hope I get better at it because I may run out of patience in the end.

bald_mathematician what is our shave routine that it takes that long? I have been shaving for less then 3 weeks and it takes about 5 to 10 minutes. I use head slick and shave in the shower and do some clean up work at the sink. If it took me that long I could see how it could be frustrating. How long does it take others? I actually like shaving.

Bald_Math,
I think you might have set a record for the longest time to headshave. From the looks of your shadow, you have considerably more hair on your head than me, but I can shave my head with and against the grain with my headblade in the shower in about 5 minutes or so. What is your shave routine... shower/sink, blade, shave gel, etc.? I can't imagine why it should take anyone that long. Collectively, we have to be able to help you get your time down. Yikes!

50 minutes, that's too much to believe. But shaving, then walking downstairs to get my breakfast feeling the super baby butt smooth top is the top of the day. Who can knock you down when you start that high

thanks daran. In 3 weeks you learned more than I did in 3 months

Stu & daran I use Bald Guyz shave gel with Mach 3. When I talk about how long it takes me to shave it doesn't make any sense. Right now I went in front of the mirror with my mach 3 razor and put it right against my scalp except that I left the plastic cover or whatever on the blade so it doesn't actually remove hair. I can see that for example going with the grain I should only need 4 strokes. But when I actually shave I take like 15 strokes with the grain at the top. About 6 on the sides, and probably 12 at the back. Ouch, thank God I have a good shave gel because otherwise I would have cut myself many places. Then I have to shave with the grain, and that too I need about 15 strokes at the top, 6 on sides, and maybe 6 at the back. After every stroke or 2 I have to put my razor in hot water to get rid of the hairs on the blade. That explains it.
And question to kenrh, what razor do you use? From the guys here headblade is the best for making it smooth but if you are not careful you will hurt yourself.

I can lather up and shave my dome in 5 minutes. Most of the time I don't consider it a chore, but there are occasional days when I'm feeling lazy and don't want to do it. But lazy or not, I can't go out in public with stubble on the dome.

Since math was always my worse subject, I'll teach you to shave in exchange for math lessons...LOL.....in all seriousness though, it takes me between 5 and 10 minutes to shave..

Ok, sounds good to me lol, but you must be patient with me because I will be slower at shaving than you are at learning math.

Enough with the humiliation I will go shave now with a new Mach 3 blade and I will try finishing as fast as I can. Tomorrow I am home nobody coming over so if I cut myself noone will see the terrible shave. Alright here I go.

It sounds like you may be overly cautious when you're shaving and it's slowing you down. Relax. In five years, I've only nicked myself with a Mach III a handful of times, and they were all minor nicks. It's much easier to shave your head than it is to shave your face. You might want to forget about shaving with the grain, and just start off by going against the grain. That will save you some steps.

Ok I just shaved right now with the grain only. It took 28 minutes to be exact.
Razox, if I were to shave only against the grain that would mean I would have to shave everyday, no?

It shouldn't make any difference in how often you shave. How often are you doing it now?

Right now 3 to 4 times a week. I would love to not shave with the grain!!!

I love to shave. As men we don't always take the time to "pamper" ourselves. That's kind of what shaving is to me...... a little pampering.
5-10 minutes and done.... with and against............

Then don't. Does it feel nice and smooth now without shaving with the grain? It should. And then there's the added bonus of cutting your shaving time nearly in half.
