Meant to post this last night. Yesterday (30th Nov) was the first Sunday in advent (coming from adventus, the Latin for arrival), the period when we prepare for Christmas and the birthday of Jesus. We light red candles on an advent wreath on the 4 Sundays leading up to Christmas, the candles signifying love, peace, joy and hope. There is a 5th white candle in the middle which is the Christ candle and is lit after midnight just into Christmas day.
Do you guys do this in America?
I hope you and your families feel hope, peace, love and joy this advent and send you best wishes for Christmas and 2009.
Yes, we have that tradition also as we lit the first candle in church Sunday.
I also wish that everyone would have peace, health and happiness during this holiday season and into the New Year !!
Same tradition here too Stephen, though in church our candle colors are different and we light the red candles at home on a family advent wreath. It was beautiful to see yesterday and exciting to start this advent season. Best wishes to you and yours as well.
I love the Advent Season........
I love the Advent Season........

btw do da all have chrsitmas markets aslo like that:
I know of a few cities that put up a KrisKringleMart but nothing like that where I live. I have always wanted to spend time in London or Nuremburg before Christmas. I think is would be awesome.
I think we call ours shopping malls.
We have a Frankfurt Christmas market in Birmingham England, with stalls, rides etc. sometimes we have an ice rink put up outside in the centre of town. stratford also has a great christmas market all up the high street.
Advent wreaths are in most Episcopal Churches, I don't know about the other churches' traditions.
