be careful working out on sore muscles. Ideally--you shouldn't. Working out 6 days a week is a BAD way to build muscle--you'll overtrain yourself and end up LOSING muscle mass, or just burning out on working out in general (or both?). If you want to BUILD muscle, you need to eat a lot and sleep a lot. Muscles are built in the kitchen and in bed, not by working out 6 days a week. If you're trying to BUILD muscle, you should really only workout 3x a week, and you should definitely switch up muscle groups.
stronglifts.com guys. If you can't squat 1.5x your body weight at LEAST this should be your bible. Love it. Live it.
I hear ya dude. I did some crossfit which I think is similar to stronglifts. Anyway P90/P90x never trains the same muscles on consecutive days. Ive done the muscle and fitness type workout for 15 years and made good gains at different times in my life. I can probably bench 100lbs more than my weight and squat at least 1.5 times my wait. And I think Ive leg pressed a small car. lol. But Im interested in more functional muscle at this point and not just being big and muscular. I want flexibility and strong cardio and endurance in addtion to being strong. So far so good...

Finished Day #16 workout of
Power 90 this morning (Power Yoga, Cardio and AB Ripper 100).
Down 7 lbs so far (240lbs). Been a bit too liberal with my mealing thus far so cutting back a bit.
My plan is to do the
Power 90 workouts until I shed about 40 lbs.....THEN AND ONLY THEN will I ratchet it WAY UP by moving to P90X. Those workouts ain't for wimps, man. Kudos to Timorous for taking them on right now.

If you ever want to be motivated to work out, watch "Pumping Iron" with Arnold Schwarzenegger. That movie is ridiculous.
my favorite quote:
Interviewer: Do you drink milk?
Arnold: No. Milk is for babies.

Another great motivator (I've heard) is the movie "300."

I never responded to this post, but I got the P90x series back in 07 to prepare for a snow ski trip I went on. I only worked out with it for a month just to get somewhat fit, which it did exactly what I wanted.
Well, fast forward to today, and I am just finishing week 6 of this and will start week 7 on sunday. I have to say that this program will kick your ass in the beginning. When I first started I could barely get through the warm ups. After week 2 I was able to handle almost everything except for the Yoga.
I have had back issues since I was a teenager, was diagnosed with scoliosis at age 12. With that in mind, I decided that I am getting older and my back is only going to start bothering me more and more, so I needed to do something to strengthen it. This seems to be doing the trick, but I do have to modify some of the routines slightly.
My plan is to finish the classic routine for the 90 days. I can report at this time that at the end of week 5 I had lost 12 pounds and it only seems to be from my stomach. The girl who works for me says I have lost my "pudge".
I decided to eat normally since I am not really overweight, and I really don't like people telling me what I can and can't eat. I was going to wait to finish before I posted, but I am curious if any of you actually finished this program and had any significant changes in your body??
Let me know how this program has worked for you if you finished it.

....I was able to handle almost everything except for the Yoga.
Yeah....that Yoga is hard core in itself.....takes some doing and getting used to.
I got knocked off my program getting quite ill over the last couple weeks. But know that THIS is the program to get me ROCKIN toward getting off diabetes meds....
So the 14 lbs at the bottom of my post is in limbo for now.....DEFINITELY have seen a marked improvement that rivals the Bill Phillips program, Body 4 Life....another hard core program that utilizes serious weightlifting....however--as you know--P90X is not hard core as far as using heavy weight lifting. But the results from P90X are better all around. (I've done BOTH programs).

Thanks for replying, I know this is an old topic. I am not really worried about how much I can lift or bench, more wanting to get fit. If I can get flexible as well so be it, but I can only continue to try the yoga no matter how much I fail at it. Whats nice is seeing some definition in my stomach other than round. I will let you know how it goes on the 90. If I look good enough might even post a pic.

Hey Guys. Have enjoyed reading this old thread. A kid at the gym was telling me about PX90 earlier this week. He said he did it. Was wondering if anyone on here had completed either P90 or PX90?
I have gotten back in the weight room and am loving it. However, I want to get in better shape and this kid was telling me about it.
I am 45 - weigh about 225 and am 6'2". Don't know if this is the program for me or not. Don't want to drop $60 for P90 or $120 for PX90 if it is just going to collect dust.
How does it work?
Do you use free weights with it?
Elastic bands?
Do you still go to the gym?
Do you do any running?
Am curious about this because I enjoy the gym and running and don't necessarily want to leave them behind. I have some free weights but don't want to buy extra free weights just to clutter up the garage.
Any feedback would be apprecited. Would also like to hear how much weight you lost, etc. Thanks.

I haven't tried that program, but what I have done is build up the elliptical trainer, 6 days a week, 20 minutes 4 days, 30 minutes 2 days, 120-125 strides a minute. I've dropped from a problematic 223 to 205. I've been dieting too, of course, the nothing white kind of thing, low glycemic. It's working. I gained a lot of weight from a medication, Lyrica, but I can't stop that so I'm cutting back on food, and upping the elliptical. It took a little over 4 months. Try it, build up from 5 to 10 minutes, then to 15, then to 20 for a couple of weeks, then hit 30 on a regular basis. It worked for me even w/ the meds continuing. I still hit weights for 30 minutes before the elliptical too, so it can be done in an hour, easily w/ some time to spare for that old buggaboo, crunches.

Nice job, Saint!!! I'm a big fan of startin' small and gradually increasing.
Hey Sooner,
I started with 75 days of P90. Why 75 and not 90? I got too anxious to move into the big leagues.
You can use resistance bands or dumbells. I use dumbells. All you need is a TV, DVD player and some floor space.
I did 30 days of P90X and then got tripped up by extended illness. Got back to it in 30 days, did another 30 and got tripped up by a bunch of sh** coming down at the same time (lost job, selling the house, etc...)
Back on it and finishing my 6th week of gradually working up in time. It's a KICK ASS set of workouts....the most intense I've ever done. If you can get to where you're keeping up with Tony Horton and the gang on the vids, you're in some killer shape.
It's an EXTREME FITNESS program. So for those interested in just dropping a few lbs or can't hang with the time commitment (6 days per week, about 45 - 60 min. per workout)....…then the DVD’s might collect dust….but if you’re wanting a radical fitness challenge….P90X is the BOMB!!!
The cardio stuff get’s the heart rate going way more rapidly and radically than any running, treadmill, stair-stepper, elliptical or ANYTHING I’ve ever done.
So the guys I know who run in addition to the program actually do it to take a break….
The whole muscle confusion thing is intense and doesn’t play games, man.
Personally, I’ve started out at just 20 minutes a workout….and gradually adding about 5 minutes every couple of weeks.
I lost about 16 lbs initially (myfitnesspal ticker below says 14) but with the two set backs I have yet to move forward. But to do it right takes intense focus and commitment.
More and more Fire Departments and Police Academies are recommending P90X as prep for their academies.
Anyway, it ain’t for the half-hearted….I’ll keep you posted….doing Legs, Back and Abs this morning.

Rob: Thanks for the info and the e-mail webinar. This sounds really really intense. I just learned this afternoon that a friend has the dvd's for px90 and I may borrow them. I will of course let you know. Please keep me updated on your progress. I also plan to check out the webinar if I am back in town next week. Thanks.
