Hi everyone. I've been lurking around slybaldguys.com for a while now and finally decided it was time to join. I have really enjoyed some of the posts on this site. The support and comradery among the members is great to read. To give you a little background about myself; I'm 25 years old. Been losing my hair for about the past three years. My father lost his hair in his twenties and I have an older brother who is also going that route. I thought about shaving my head a few time before but could never bring myself to it. The thought has once again crept into my mind and allowed to stumble across this great website.
I've read through some of the posts on here and can identify with them. I've seen my confidnece and self-worth plummet. I go through stages of unhealthy depression and I know it's all over one thing...losing my hair. I should be out enjoying my mid 20's having a great time yet I can barely work up enough nerve to leave my house without a hat.
So it's brought to a cross roads in my life. I want to make the decision to end this stuggle with my outward appearance. I'm not a vain person by any means, yet this consumes me. But like my screename indicates...I'm on the fence. I worry about what I'll look like and what my family and friend will say. Reading the posts of the people on this forum have done much to ease my fears and just go through with it and I thank you for that.
I think it's time to work up the courage and just do it...and then post some pics for you guys to see.

Sounds like you know what you gotta do. Just take a deep breath and do it. Nothing bad will happen; the worst case (and very unlikely) scenario is that you don't like it and grow your hair back.

Welcome OTF, great to have you on board. Fences can be very uncomfortable to sit on. You will not feel really comfortable until you jump off and take it sly.

Hi OTF and welcome to the Forum!
If your thinning hair is ruling your life and causing depression...... then YOU need to take control.
It's only hair and it shouldn't control your life. Liberation is only a few razor swipes away!
Try going SLY, give it 30 days....... your life will be changed forever...

Welcome to the forum, OTF,
You said that you are worried about what you'll look like and what your family and friends will say. Most of us here had the same concerns, and found that it really turned out to be a non-issue.
Most people can pull off the sly look without difficulty. It is mostly a matter of making the decision to do it. It's YOUR head, and YOUR decision to make, not anybody else's. And, guess what, if you don't like it, you can always make another decision to let it grow (a few have done so).
As for what other people might say, don't distress yourself with imaginings. Most people say nothing. For the few who do ask,"Why did you do that?", a simple , "Because I felt like it." is usually sufficient.
I started loosing hair in my 20's and really wish I hadn't waited so long to go sly.

Hey otf, welcome to SBG's.
I say just jump off that fence, bro.
This simple act will allow you to be free. You feel a major difference after you shave it clean. No more worries.
It's very liberating, as Mike has said. Give it the thirty days, but I guarantee you'll be happy long before those thirty are up.
Keep us posted on how it goes

Welcome OTF!!! Glad you found us.
I think you've already made up your mind. Take the guys' advice on the 30 day trial period. Like most of us, you'll never go back.

Been lurking awhile and thought I would say Hi. I have been contemplating taking the plunge for a while now. I guess I am just afraid I will have an ugly freaky head under my hair and regret the shave. No problem with losing my hair just have wanted to do it for awhile because I like the look. It looks like you guys have a great board going here.
