Since we have had the 80's.....how about something for the older generation if there any here!! Where were you all when you first heard about the "Beatles" coming to the USA
I believe I was in my Freshman year of High School.....come on you other guys....time to show your age if you dare !!

I think I would have been Junior High age then but I have a friend who went to Shea Stadium to see them. She would have been about your age. I thought that was (and still is) the coolest thing.
Coolest person I ever saw live: Ella Fitzgerald in 1989. She was quite old, but could still swing.

Coolest person I ever saw live: Ella Fitzgerald in 1989. She was quite old, but could still swing.

Momentary thread hijack here.....
I saw Ella Fitzgerald in 1976 in a small theater that held about 2,500 people. She was there with the Count Basie Orchestra. I was turning 16 at the time and my Mom told me she had something very special for me for my birthday. When i asked what and she told me she was taking me to see Ella Fitzgerald my response was, "Who?". I was a bit of a hard rock guy back then. When Mom said the word "orchestra" I cringed.... but I went with Mom to make her happy.
When Miss Fitzgerald opened her mouth and began to sing I couldn't believe what i was hearing. Absolutely amazing. I sat on the edge of my seat for the two full hours that she sang.
To this day........... STILL the greatest performance I've seen live..... and I've seen some pretty good ones.

The 60's....
I was in the 4th grade when The Beatles first hit. Watched them on Ed Sullivan live and in Black n White. They played their last concert at Shea Staduim on my birthday, August 29, 1968. I got to see Jimi, Janis and Jim before they died. -

Back in the '60s, during the heyday of the variety shows on TV, Ella Fitzgerald and Sammy Davis Jr pitched a concept to the networks for a variety show that they would co-host. The three networks all turned them down, because they didn't think they could line up sponsors for...

I listen to a lot of music from the 60s, but because I like it...I sometimes listen to 80s music, but I am not sure you could really say I LIKE it.

Yeah, and I am always amazed at the number of younger people who love the music from the 60's......before I retired some of the younger guys I worked with were always listening to 60's music....I guess that music will never die.........

Nah, when music is classic, it never dies. There is some newer music that is classic too, but there's a certain feel in each of the decades, and the 60s had a feel that I love. An almost innocence...makes me feel you. Hard to explain.
