That's a reality check, I've only experienced the sweat on the equipment business--I bring a towel and they have them, why can't these bozos do likewise--I HATE having to clean a piece of equipment before using it. Before Katrina I went to a "real" gym, old equipment but working, and some real characters--movie material type stuff, but at less than $300 a year, it was worth it. Now it's big corporate and more than $1000 a year and a little too "upscale" for my workout mood. I've got to find another real gym.
The sauna "cooker" is a hoot!
They don't mention training partners, usually ladies, who use both pieces of the same execise equipment rather than shaing one, thus monopolizing the station, while they gab and "rest!" That one swells me up too.

Yeah, that one really irritates me, too -- though to be fair, it is the old men and not the ladies that are guilty of this in my gym.
Not too long ago I was forced to listen to one side of an inane cell phone conversation while I was on the elliptical; that was really annoying. Another time I was on an elliptical next to some gal who was wearing a whole bottle of perfume that smelled like those vanilla candles. That was rather unpleasant.

Luckily I no longer have any of those problems. I live out in the country, 30mins from the closest gym, and with working 12hr shifts, I decided to invest in my own equipment. Now I can drive home after work and work out then crash instead of having to worry about a drive home after 12hrs of work then working out. I turned my sunroom into a gym and have bike, bench and home gym system in it. I also decided to go this way because with shift work it makes it difficult to get to a gym during their hours of operation.

Don't get me started......
The "dumbell-dropper"
1) When the gym is not designed for it (second floor??) and it's CLEARLY POSTED
2) When it is obvious that the a$$hole dropping them is CLEARLY doing it for the attention.

The cell phone on the equipment is the one that kills me. I do a circuit training routine and I hate when some dude or chick is sitting on a piece of equipment talking on the phone.
I just walk up to them and let them know that the machines are for working out, not resting while on the phone. I usually get to use the machine right away.

I hate that and I also hate it when I'm on a treadmill/elliptical/stair stepper next to someone who's talking on the phone because then I'm trapped there forced to listen to their conversation for 10 or 15 minutes. It's almost as bad as people who shout into their cell phones on the train.

I would never have my cell phone with me while I was working out. There really isn't anything so important that it can't wait an hour until I'm done. I like having that hour or so to myself when no one can reach me.

I do on the train -- though some people are so loud even that doesn't completely block them out. I don't like using the iPod when I'm working out.

My gripe: when women and men in their 40's and older are unable to really do one-on-one training and the instructor (trainer) has to lift the weights for them to get them started especially when they are lifting say 20 lbs.

I always carry a small towel at the gym to wipe down anything I use even if it is not sweaty, I am not a sweat hog, I just do it as a good gesture and out of habit. I dont understand why someone would be ok with leaving a sweat drenched machine and just walk away.
I have to say most people at my current gym are pretty considerate but when i used to go to 24hr in CA there were some nasty conditions and people.

what that story didn't tell us, is that the 'victim' in the cycle class was shouting "gay pornographic slang", and when the "assailant" asked him repeatedly to stop, he was answered with cursing and finger jesters.
I'm not defending the guy, but I don't blame him

I don't go to the gym. Now I know why.
Why can't people just behave!?
