Hey DS321. I know I am late in weighing in on your post. HOwever, I am a former rug wearer of 23 years. Began wearing one when I was 20 because of MPB.
Last June I took the leap. Lost the piece and told the barber to skin it down. Went home and shaved the rest smooth on a Friday afternoon.
Went to work on Monday with a new zip in my step. I am an attorney. I even had a trial that Monday. Decided there was no time like the present so I did it. My client that day said - man you look great. That client was in the office again about a week ago and told me he was jealous of my look - and he has a whole head of hair. He said he wished he knew he would good with no hair.
The first day at the courthouse and the office was nothing but compliments.
One of the greatest days of my life when I lost the wig.

I see he changed his avatar pic.....personally i don't think any avatar pic he uses is of himself. i guess if you're too shy to show yourself you can try to make people think your some kind of bald model, whatever floats your boat.

Just do it. I shaved mine off on a Friday, so by the time Monday came around I had some stubbles going to work. But,,,,I was shaving it down with a clipper for years anyways, so the difference between #1 guard and bald didn't seem to make a difference. As others have said,,,,,just do it, and care less what others think.

I'm 27 and I've been sly for two years. I was thinning in the front progressively for about two years and it was becoming very noticeable no matter how I styled it.
I took the plunge right before I took a two month European study abroad/vacation. By the time I was back at school I was completely used to the new look and feel.
It took me about two weeks to get used to it, and I immediately liked it.
First I buzzed it with no guard, then once I was on the road I just started using a Mach 3 to get it really clean.
It took me about a week to get completely used to it and after 2 weeks people will be done commenting. People's reactions were about 90% positive (my mom didn't like it at first until it tanned up abit).
The reaction from females was decidedly positive. There is a subset of women that LOVE bald men, and I have found them.
I'd say first buzz it down then take it all the way to the skin after that if you want. Just be sure to read the proper directions so you do it right.

My sister is a producer for a pretty big news station, and one of the guys she works with (on air) had his hair blow off at a golf event, I can't even begin to think how he must have felt! I think he may shave now that everyone he works with knows. (they did anyway) My sister told him and her boyfriend how much I like it, (she wants her thinning boyfriend to shave) but that first time is kinda scary!
Your new look will soon grow on everyone, and you will feel so free, good luck! I cast my vote to break out the razor!

When I first did it I had a full head of hair. I remember my boss told me I looked like a gay forest ranger. I really feel it contributed to my demise from that job a year or so later. He never really got used to it. This guy was really different though; had I worked for a normal employer I think it would have been fine. Out here in the toolies people tend to say their thoughts outloud a lot. I mean, what exactly does a gay forest ranger look like (me bald?)
I am still sly, will never go back, and now everybody thinks it is normal. I love it. Even my wife says people think I look better.
Look, just do it, walk into work and say, "Its my new look, what doyou think?" Just be really bold and be the first to talk about it. It'll be fine. There are sooooooo many sly folks eeeeverywhere. Its not even like it is a bold move anymore really.

It look's like I posted this thread in late May. I haven't taken the plunge yet but plan I being completely bald by the end of October.
I work for a large company and I'm switching jobs, bosses, co-workers, buildings as soon as my current supervisor releases me. I will be tossing the rugs. I'm glad to because I do martial arts and other fitness activities and I sweat a lot. I'll try to get some pictures up on the board soon. Plan on using the Jergens stuff also. Guessing the sides (where there is hair) will be lighter than the top of my head. The reason I did not do it sooner was I just did not feel like explaining why I did it to my coworkers. Why do I care. Don't have a clue. My family is fine with it. I'm sure though I'll be razzed a little by my older brother though. I just feel better about doing this now then back in my twenties. One of the issues I'm having now is that my hair is thinning at my back hairline and it's creeping up. So it's time. Thanks for all of your support.

It's only hair. I hope you set yourself free soon.
You're going to look tougher in Martial Arts class. Don't forget a headband. Sweat runs in your eyes faster but it's so much fun to wipe down and keep going. In that setting, sly looks especially good. You're gonna love it.

My last day in my current job will be on Nov 6th. Start my new job on Friday Nov 7th. I guess I will shave it off when I get home on Nov 6th or maybe I'll call in sick that they. Just to let you all know I bought some of the Jergens Natural Glow. Used it 3 days now on one of my love handles. It works as advertised. Will post pictures soon.
