Step 1 - Buzz with no guard and a birthmark is exposed...now what?

My wife finally convinced this 47 y/o man, forever balding but clinging to the few hairs remaining on the back and sides, to shave. The buzz at the salon exposed a dark red birthmark. It is roundish and about a half inch in diameter (or so). Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? It really wasn't pronounced with my buzz, but I am wondering what a complete shave will do the visibility. Had planned on shaving Tuesday, but now have jitters

Pff, don't let that stop you, man! I have a mole on the top of my head (I hate, but I'm still bald and proud). Something as small as a birthmark, I wouldn't sweat it at all.
Now, post pics!

Hey Doug, welcome to SBG's!
First of all look at it as a natural Tatoo!! It defines who you are, so be proud of it, not ashamed.
Secondly, you have the support from your wife, I am single but there are some guys here that don't have alot of support from thier partner, so this is a big plus.
Go for it and give it 30 days to get use to it. Check out the shave routines posted to see what might suit you best.
Get ready for an awesome experience, your gonna love it!

Hey Doug, welcome. Don't sweat the birthmark stuff...like the other bros said, it's just a mark of individuality. Have one on the side of the dome myself and never get any comments about it and even forget it's there.

Welcome, Doug. You might as well give it a try. At worst, it will be a couple of days before it grows back to a buzz. But you'll never know what the freedom is like if you let your fears hold you back.
Best of luck

Doug: I have one of those marks, too. Looks like a very slightly raised but flat mark the color of a reddish grape. Right above my right ear. I was aware of the bump since childhood, but got a good look at it when I went SLY. You can kinda see mine in my avatar. About 1/2 inch in length. Doesn't even bug me anymore. Take the plunge and you'll get the confidence boost many of us did and you'll forget all about it. Another advantage of going SLY is your doc/dermatologist gets a good look at what's going on with your scalp and can spot anything suspicious.

First shave your head smooth and see if you dig it...
then worry about the birthmark...
I'm sure no one will notice...they'll just be admiring your new smooth shiny bald head!

Heck, I've got one covering most of my right cheek. It'll only bother you if you let it.

Hey Doug. No worries....

We all have birth marks, scars, moles, etc. Someone once said that we're own worst critics. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I have some moles on my head and this was a problem at first. I had one that stuck out far and was at risk for being cut every time I shaved. So I had a DR frined of mine cut it off. I have other moles that do not stick up, and do not prevent me from keeping it slick. I hate to even miss a day (though sometime I do) shaving. Post a pic, everyone here will give an honest opinion!!! Keep it sly.

Scalps are individual as the persons who they are attached to. Go ahead and shave it smooth, you will find the birthmark isn't that big of a deal. If it bothers you too much, you will be back to a #1 buzz in about a week.
