Violence doesnt solve anything in dealing with idiots like that. Usually just results in trouble for you and they get away with it in the end.

There is a line in a Smiths song that I have tried my hardest to consider when I cope sh*t for strangers
"Why do I give valuable time to people who dont care if I live or die"
I try not to let name calling and abuse bother me. I dont give a sh*t about them, they dont give a sh*t about me. End of story
jdog: U took the words right out of my mouth. that is exactly how i feel 'bout name calling. well said, brah!

I can handle names as I was called a lot as a kid. Though, I do not tolerate calling my wife anything. Some guy called her a c*nt once and quickly got a fist to the face. The best part was my wife then landed about 3 more punches in his face when my friends pulled me off of him. This was all after the guy tried to start stuff by calling me and my friends a bunch of fags. We ignored him until he spoke to my wife.

I'm with Tyler 100% on this one. Say what you want about me but leave the wife alone. No one should talk to a woman like that and not expect to get the sh*t kicked out of them.
Good for your wife Tyler.........

Good For her TYLER....nothing is worse than getting the sh*t beat out of ya by a woman. More of an ego thing than anything. So Im gathering info here...so you all think Im being too sensitive about the name calling thing? I guess I really dont get too bent out of shape about it...I just ignore the person....either in real life or in chat/texting. Not only does it drive me insane when someone says it to me..but even when I hear other people say it to someone else. To me that word sits at the top of the list above all others. I have before confronted other people when I hear them say it....and they look at me like im some kind of nut case. I cant stand it when I hear it on TV because I cant respond to them. LOL. Hey its just one of my quirks ya know..we all have em. Just like all of ya and seeing a man in red and whites..LOL..
See ya

Yeah, it was pretty funny watching the dude get punched by my wife. I really enjoyed laughing at him as we walked away.

The thing that has worked best for me over the years is something I learned from David Allan Coe's book Convict.
His first day in prison he was standing in chow line and someone behind him started talking smack. Coe knew the guy was talking to him but kind of ignored it, as though "this chump simply cannot be talking to me". So on the few occasions that I felt as though someone was addressing me in a less than complimentary manner I just kinda made like he had to be talking to someone else. The jumping off point would be when a person actually made physical contact with me but, thankfully, that has not happened in a long time. I'm gettin' too old for that sh*t.
Plus, guys with loud mouths usually don't go much beyond beatin' their gums. The guys I like to observe are the ones who have nothing to say. They just get kind of a little grin goin' and act nice and when the sh*t kicks off they get down to business. It's massive fun to watch.

I completely agree that walking away is the best method. I was trying to employ that method until he spoke to my wife in the manner that he did.
