I think I've finally wonked this headshave thing out.
First: I've been blading for about 6 weeks. 1st shave was razor burn city, but I liked the look so much, HeadBlade and I continued our negotiations over the sink.
Then I started shaving in the shower. No mirror, touch only. That bumped it up a notch. Finally started shaving against the grain. Nice, but not quite perfect.
SO:
My local Big Lots store was selling discounted facial scrub. I purchased the apricot/ginger/pumice exfolliant on a whim. Then I got to thinking, with no hair, there should be no need for shampoo. Somewhere, I read an excellent article on the chemical properties of hand soap vs. shampoo. I just need to exfolliate to remove dead skin. I already had a scalp scrubbing brush which I purchased from the beauty supply store.
This morning, I exfolliated with the brush and the scrub, got nice and clean, THEN applied head slick. Ran the HB against the grain all over and applied HB Moisturizer. I'm now smooth as baby's behind - and shiny, too!
I suppose I could mail order the HeadClear since my stores don't carry it, yet. But I do believe my new method works just as well.
Of course, the ultimate test awaits. Contrary to rumour, the best test is NOT the random head rub. It's quite a bit more - intimate. Anyway, some lucky lady will have the opportunity soon to tell me how well my new regimen works.
Happy New Year, everybody. Stay Sly!!
Charles, I'm glad you found a routine that works for you!
I have found that exfoliating with a facial scrub daily is more harm than good (for me). I cut it back to 2-3 times a week.
It does produce a nice shiny scalp though.
