Hey, came across this place about a week ago. What an wicked site!
I'm 20, and I've been aware that my hair's falling out for probably about 8 months now. I've not been worrying too much about the present, but recently I haven't been able to stop thinking about the future. As I'm so young, I've got my career, marriage, everything to think about, and I've been worrying that having thinning hair's going to affect that.
I tried propecia and it was horrible. I realised pretty soon into it that I didn't want to be medicated for most of my adult life just because of my hair. I started thinking about transplants, placing my hopes on a future cure, and worrying that there might not be an answer.
But now I'm thinking: it doesn't matter. If some miracle cure comes along and I can grow it all back in a few years, brilliant. But if not, it's not the end at all. And seeing a lot of the posts on this site has shown me that.
Just by chance, I went to a really cheap barbers today, and the person didn't really speak English. I wanted "a slight trim", but I ended up getting it shorn really short with the clippers! But it didn't matter. I realized that my head's not actually shaped bad or anything, and that probably if I wanted it all off it would look OK. I'm not going to do that at this stage, but I've no longer got any anxiety if that's what I have to do in the future.
Anyway, just wanted to pop in and say hi. Really cool site this, I'll definitely be coming back on every now and then.

Welcome M.D.!!
Alot of dudes (like me) tried the shorter and shorter and shorter approach to get used to how they like it.
Clipping it shorter and shorter usually leads to at least trying the smooth shave and giving it a few weeks to get used to. If they don't like it, it quickly grows back to what they were comfortable with on the short clipper.

Robmeister gave you some great advice. Give it a wurl, it's a great look and easy to maintain....and if you don't like it, it grows back. Good Luck!

There is nothing to worry about. Losing your hair will not prevent you from getting any of the things you want in life.

Monkeydust, welcome to Sly Bald Guys! I'm glad to hear that you've seen the light at the end of the tunnel and that you realize that shaving your head is a better solution than Propecia or a hair transplant. Like JustColorado said, going bald will not keep you from getting all the things you want in life. If you need any help going foward, we're here to help you.

Welcome MonkeyD,
I'm at the same stage as you bro! Only been a couple of years since my hair has started going (I'm 21 now). In the beginning thoughts of the future loomed heavy. But I'm starting to get over that now. Looking forward to my bright

long future as a sly guy.
The sooner you can accept the fact that your going bald the easier things will get. You've got to take this negative thing and turn it into the best thing you can. Sure, go through all the steps of loss, I know I grieved and I still have some to do. But always keep in mind that if you don't come to grips with it, life's going to be a tough journey. Take it as a chance to make yourself an even stronger person.
Sorry this post seems a bit
heavy, and sorry if I seem condescending I don't mean to. You are definitely on your way to have this problem by the short's. Ok, i'm off. Stay strong.
