Hairline question

My dad has a high hairline, but not bald and both of my parents have always had thin hair. (no one in my family is bald though, just high forehead)

- I also have a high forehead and somewhat thin hair

Over the past week I realized that my hairline was higher than say a year or 2 ago (only about a fingertip, and i am pretty sure some has gone away).
But the thing that bothers me is that it is that it receded in the normal recession spot, where balding occurs.
Now I read that your hair matures and it looses a little in the area that I described.

Here are my questions:
Can you distinguish between this mature hairline and a balding hairline early?
or once it starts receding it does not stop?

Hi sowhatsup,

I am not sure whether there is a way to tell whether your hair is just receding to a "more mature hairline" or whether it will continue on to mpb which, if I understand you, is what I think you're asking.  As far as I am aware even if the hair does carry on receding it can stop or slow down at anytime & people lose hair at different rates so, some guys lose pretty much all their hair quite quickly whereas for others, it might take years & years & they may never go completely bald. Everyone is different. If you are worried though a doctor or trichologist would probably be able to tell you very quickly whether you do have mpb or not. However, even if you do find you have mpb - it's not the end of the world as I hope we ably illustrate on this site!  :)

so what's up sowhatsup? ha ha not real sure about this one bro. i knew i was gonna be bald. everyone in my family is bald. it was enevitable. maybe someone else has an answer. i would like to hear it too. post up more so we can get to know ya.

Almost everyone suppers from MPB, even females. This is the natural occurance based on a combination of testosterone and aging. I guess you could say, welcome to reality!!

I'm not a doctor, but I'd have to agree with ShySlyGuy on this one.  Genetics is probably going to be involved here, but you could progress slower or faster than your relatives.

Its based on Holiday Inn's commercials. Basically, you are SOOO smart for staying at a Holiday Inn that it makes you a genius at everything else.

I'm not sure if this will help you or not, but google Norwood Chart ... this may give you a good idea of MPB patterns.

Or better yet, just go sly and don't worry about it anymore  O0
