It's just that spot on your crown where hair grows in all different directions.

Thanks, all. My dad (in his 50s) has a pretty big bald spot, so I was wondering if it was my own genetics beginning to follow suit. I'll be permanently going sly if/when that happens.

by the time i was 24, I already sported the hairline that my father had only achieved in his late 50's. by 30 all i can grow is a small horseshoe, so I shave and accept reality, BUT I am not bald, I have plenty of hair on my head, it's just not on top of my head

I thought a cow lick was when hair at the front stood upright when around it it fell down

Actually both of them are cowlicks....Also, if a person has a neck tail on the nape of the neck that extends below the normal blockut line (usually in the dead center) that's considered to be a cowlick.
