Definitely keep the beard. Agree with others that a buzz would be the first option. When comfortable with that then go for the shaved look.

Hey everybody, there was a bit of a delay.
I went out to my car that day to find out it had been towed... from my own apartment complex!
Anyways, went and got a buzz, 2 on the sides and 3 on top... I like it, but I want it shorter now!
You guys are right, I've already begun asking myself "why did I wait so long???"! -

Since you say you want it shorter, it sounds like you are ready. So why not go ahead and razor shave it?
