30 day log

Wednesday evening, Day 0: Finally took the plunge from no guard clipper to clean shaven. Scalp felt numb and lying on a pillow felt really odd. Didn't sleep much that night as it felt a bit unusual. Nonetheless, it felt great and looked clean which is what I wanted.
Thursday: The first day and I got one comment which was along the lines of 'but WHY?' I just bluntly explained - 'because I wanted to - low cost, low maintenance'. Seemed to get it. No comment from family. Bought a snapback to compliment the new look and protect my head from the cold a bit. Could feel the sandpaper/stubble coming through that evening. Mixed feelings about it, on the one hand familiarity, on the other, the urge get rid of it. Came down ill in the evening though so just decided to have an early night and wait.
Friday: Again no comments. The stubble had properly come through by about 2pm. Getting my t-shirt stuck on the it reminded me of why I went clean shaven. 6:35 and I have just had a shower and finished my second shave. Felt more confident about it this time, only a couple of very small nicks, skin seems to be adjusting quickly. Noted down the 30 day challenge on my calendar. 30 days to get myself and my friends/family to the new look. Opened this thread to keep track.

Sat and Sun: Haven't shaved since Friday. I'm starting to miss the shadow/stubble look even if it doesn't feel as good/clean as shaven so have let it go a bit. On the one hand I want to shave again because its so much easier than clippering, on the other I'm finding it difficult to commit to a daily shave. I'm feeling a bit reluctant to pull off the full 'shiny' just-freshly shaved look. This is why the last two times I did it in the early evening so there was some shadow by the next day. Perhaps its all in my head but without the shadow, its a very different look albeit one that I prefer but it just feels a little bit outside my comfort zone? I suppose that's what the 30 day rule is all about... So yeah, mixed feelings at this point.

I hear ya Reg , for myself I have no problem shaving during the warm weather. But come winter I can't stand the cold head or the shaving required. What I do is buzz at # 1/2 and grow for 3 weeks then re buzz it. Low maintenance and I don't feel the draft. Sacrilegious maybe but works for me.

Thanks for the support. I definitely feel comfortable with a #0 I guess its just indecision on my part that comes with acclimatising to a new look. I will probably start shaving on a daily basis soon once I and others are used to the idea. Until then, I'll reset this log to day 0 for when I embark on that next step.

Nothing wrong with going from clean shaven to stubble and back. Whatever feels good at the moment is what you should go with.

Thanks, I just went back to clean shaven. It was starting to grow in fast and I didn't like how it looked! I was using balding clippers prior to this (as in my avatar) as well for about 2 weeks so I think 3-4 days of growth actually looks weird to me now. This is how it looks currently

Well after another break, I decided to go in for it again. This time with the grain, that way when it hits the morning, I'm sporting some stubble. A few kind of freaked at the difference between #0 guard and slick so I'm breaking them in with this kind of halfway. Eventually, once I'm ready I will embark on the 30 day challenge. Semi-serious question, would shaving WTG in the evening each night count or would it need to be/perferably be ATG in the morning? Obviously will stick with what I'm most comfortable with but would like to give it a go once I'm ready!

Cheers! I start a new job tomorrow so I have decided to embark on a proper 30 day challenge, shaving every morning. Meeting all new people, its a good opportunity to break in the new look.

Hi Greg, good luck with the new job, perfect time to start off with a shaved head.
To answer your earlier question, basically, the only noticeable difference between wtg, or atg will be what you feel after shaving.

Back to being sly after a few weeks sporting a #2 Went down to a no guard and couldn't help but finish the job haha. Looks nice and clean for another new job tomorrow. The last one I quit as I was told I was learning to be a fitness instructor when in fact it was door-to-door sales! New job is being a doorman which is pretty straightforward but rewarding.
