My wife and I were in Ireland recently and I noticed that a lot of the barber shops were "Turkish barbers" that offered head shaves. I decided to give one a try and it was great. The barber took great care with each step: hot towel wrap, scalp rub with warm oil, lather up with a brush, lather a second time, straight razor shave, lather a third time, straight razor shave to get completely smooth, hot towel wrap, shoulder / neck massage while the hot towel was on, and finally rub the scalp with a moisturizing oil. My head was as smooth as a baby's bottom. The total cost: about $20!

Wow, does that sound excellent.
I still am looking for a barber around my area that can give just a half-way decent shave.

I had a haircut once in Turkey (before I shaved my head) and it was a great experience. Lots of hot towels, shoulder and head massage, cleaning hair from ears etc. Would love to have a head shave there.

I am afraid that I am much better at wielding a straight razor than any barbers in my area. It is a lot art in these parts.

I have been to turkey several times and love that fascinating country! Turkish barbers are a luxurious treat! And getting a full service Turkish bath/massage -- heavenly! In fact, two of the turkish baths I visited had a barber right at the bath house. Getting a straight razor head and face shave after a turkish bath and massage - now that is pampering!

I had my first turkish head shave on holiday in Bulgaria... It cost me 30lev which was around £12 and it was one of the best experiences I have had grooming wise. The only downside is he went with the grain, still was an amazing shave tho!

I have experienced a few Turkish barber head-shaves & their routine is amazing. I never seem to get a smoother head than when I get a head shave from a Turkish barber. It is a bit of a treat though at nearly £15.00. The massages are wonderful, too.
Thankfully, a Turkish Barber has just recently opened near my neighbourhood, so I may become a frequent visitor to him.
