What steps did you take?

When my hair started thinning I first wore hats, and pretended that it wasn't going away. I eventually buzzed it with electric clippers and then after a few years went to a razor and have shaved it every few days since. I love it now, but it took time to accept it.
I never tried any treatments or considered wigs, toupees, etc.
Just curious about you guys, so go back into the past and tell us what you did to address your hair loss.

I got closer haircuts.....I did the hat thing for a while, even when I did occasionally clippershave my head. In 2008, I finally went to the razor and never looked back.

No hair loss. I truly prefer the bald look. Easy to maintain and it's timeless.

About 5 or 6 years ago, I had a very stressful job, was under extreme stress, and started losing alot of hair. The shower drain had lots of hair everyday. I started agonizing about going bald. I quit the job and moved home to Minnesota, and after about 6 months, I noticed my hair thickened up again. The reason for this story, is to remind some of the guys agonizing over losing hair, that stress can be a factor.
I'm like Frontier Guy, bbc, I just fired up the clippers and razor and mowed my hair off. The one time head shave turned into 15 months bald so far.

Mine started to thin out in my teens, but the "M" or peninsula did not show up at the hairline until I was in my early twenties. I think I combed over the balding patch for the first few months, then just accepted it and let it show from then on.

I always carried a comb and made sure my hair was combed just so to cover up the recession and balding. It was hair sprayed so it didn't move out if place. I kept cutting it shorter and shorter. Eventually I got a crew cut and at that point, I accepted what was happening. The crew cuts kept getting tighter and last summer I decided to keep the head shaved. This was a very long process. I wish I would have skipped right to the head shave!

I was exactly the same as SirHarry. Did short hair, hats (sooooo many hats), buzz and then sly.
Aged 20 I had long flowing locks and then aged 21 it was gone.

My stage of Denial was almost as long as the river in Egypt! My hairline started receding right at the end of high school. In college, and for a year or so afterward, I had long parted in the middle to cover up (or make me think I was covering up) the recession. After that, I cut my hair to "normal" length and left it that way for a long time. Finally, in my mid-30s, I started cutting my hair progressively shorter. By my 40s, I experimented with buzz cuts and even tried a few total shaves. Only last year, just before my 61st birthday, did I shave it off and keep it off. Almost everyone in this community took less time to face the bald truth than I did. Actually, as I look at pictures from 10 or so years ago, I liked my short but not shaved haircut and goatee. The Kojak look is the right one for me now.

Mine started at the end off School during my last GSCES times or close to it (i was 16) i remember getting a haircut and noticing something wasnt right but couldnt put my finger on it so i forgot about it...then next time i went to get my haircut it was more clear so i started to panic but it was still so small so i would forget about it...i would over time do certain hairstyles to hide it since it was at the front like combing my fringe over or spiked it i remember getting some different type off shampoo thinking it was to do with my dandruff (silly i know)...only used it for about a week then after that i didnt really use it i basically didnt use enough to see any effect (there wasnt gonna be any but at the time i though differently)
At 18 or 19 knowing deep down the combing over off the fringe to hide the "m" shape and bald spot wasnt working nomore i saw my reflection and just thought on the lines off "what am i doing? i look silly time to cut it"...it was weird since i looked at my hair to "fix" it many times that day while staying in denial but that one time I questioned myself to why i was doing it but from then on i just got shorter and shorter when ever the loss got worse to what i am today...and it was at 22 i shaved to the lowest setting of the electric razor funny how i let my hair grow out with nocare in the world now funny how things change but glad it did.

I'm with Frontier Guy. I just like a bald head. The move to bald was gradual, but all about choice, not necessity.
I do think that bald and a beard are a great combination.

I buzzed my head for a year before I shaved it off completely. Probably started thinning in my early mid 30's and wore a pompadour to keep the thinning covered up. But when you could start seeing through the pompadour and on the crown start seeing the scalp, then I knew it was really starting to get thin. I tried different types of shampoo systems, Nioxin, Bosley, etc in the hopes of trying to save what I had. I finally buzzed it a couple of years ago at the urging of a girl I was seeing and as I said kept it that way for a year before I went fully shaved.
I did know that I was going to shave it once it was time, I just thought I still had a few years left. Now that it's shaved, I love it and can't imagine being any other way.

I noticed recession at temples in college; grey came into my beard at the chin at 27, and crown started to thin around 30. It never bothered me at all, and I wore a shorter business man's haircut, cut monthly, since 28 anyway. At about 52, what hair I had left was mostly white & pretty "see through" across the front of my forehead. So, I switched to a #2 buzz which has gotten progressively shorter. About 3 years ago I bought my own Andis BGRC and now keep my hair mostly at the 0 length (trim every 4 days or so, mostly #000000, although up to #0A or #1 in the colder months), with occasional periods of head shaving in the summer months (longer period each time). I never tried to cover up with a hat. In fact, I feel more self conscious wearing certain style of hats than I ever felt about my hair loss. I like having a little stubble and even though most people would consider my 0 buzz (especially #000000) as "shaved", I have been reluctant to move to a full head shave on a regular basis.
