My thoughts? Simple. If you want to do it, then don't expend the energy worrying about it. Grab the clippers and start.
You will be giving your scalp time to tan up a little before you shave.

Like Cave said, just grab those clippers and do it. The first swipe is always the hardest to take.

There are a number of guys here on SBG who planned to shave their head; set a date; then jumped the gun and did not wait until that date. They just did it. Couldn't wait. Then they said, Why did I wait so long.
I was one of them. That was over 2.5 years ago. Been shaving my head ever since.
Just got another good compliment from a buddy tonight the style/look.
Go head and shave it down now. You'll be ready for Halloween.

I would go with no guard to give myself and others time to adjust to the bald look..you can always reshave it if you have to or grow it out before doing the deed for Halloween

Visually, the difference between 'no-guard buzzed' and SLY is nil. Hard to see the difference. The difference is in the feel, the latter being much nicer.

Once the thought of buzzing/shaving my head was in my head, it consumed way too much of my time. Then I went to a community festival nd switch about 20 shaved heads, and at 4 am the next morning, I was buzzing my full head of hair. I buzzed it to 1/4" and didn't like that look at all. So I clipped it all off with a 00000 blade, jumped in the shower and shaved it. Boy, my girlfriend was shocked, but 30 minutes later she loved it. I'm 14 months shaved bald and love it.
