so i went to a barber shop but think he did a bad job because my head wasnt as smooth as when i shave it with my headblade ATX + gilette fusion proglide....
in the meantime i also received the straight razor/shavette i ordered and tried it but didnt get a smooth shave.... (maybe i didnt apply enough pressure but i feel like a kind of cut my self in certain places so i just ended up shaving the usual way....

haha don't give up. My first 3 or 4 shaves with my DE razor were uneven and a little irritating. Just concentrate on the grain of your hair and the direction it grows while also making sure not to make too many passes. I know with straights especially you can irritate the skin if you over expose it to the blade. Settle for a less-than-perfect shave for a few days and it will be well worth your patience when you achieve a good shave

The shavette is going to take some time to get used to, a few weeks at least I'd say (based on daily shaving).

Did the barber give you any tips on how to use the straight razor? If so did he tell you what angle it should be as far as shaving?

The SR1 is a shavette, the plus to that is you can simply snap a fresh DE in half (before unwrapping it) and have 2 blades for it. I snagged a Dovo straight razor on eBay for $70. I haven't really used it much because I'm more comfortable with my DE.

I understand. The thing is though, that shaving with a shavette is a skill that has to be practised. It is not easy but that doesn't mean most people can't master it with practice.
As far as finishing the shave with a regular razor goes, only your skin can tell you that, as it depends exactly how irritated the shavette leaves it. Don't push it too far though...

i will wait till next week since i got the whole week off
today i tried to do it just the top of my head and i left a big mark (cut/scratch) at the crown of the head.... so i decided to finish with the headblade ATX....
i use that and the fusion proglide and get a super smooth shave.... do it everyday...
i guess with time (quite a bit of it) i might "master" the straight....

Don't be freaked out. The first few weeks are an adjustment/learning period. Just get comfortable with what works for you. We all have different hair types, so there's not really a one size fits all approach to shaving. After about a month of head shaving you can start to branch out and experiment with different techniques.

I'm very comfortable and at peace with my ATX, I began with that and all has been going great with ATX right from the start, which has been a really nice surprise. What is freaking me out is reading this post about Straight Razor shaving. I'm happy right now to just snuggle up with ATX and read about it but not at bedtime or we might have nightmares
