To shave or not? This is the question

Evening All
So I went to get my hair cut today and with a bit of a cheeky grin the barber told me that I'm starting to get a bit thin on top. Didn't believe him at first but then he wiped out a mirror and held it above my head to show me, and he was right!
I've been receding and thinning slowly at the front for years, at least 10, but hadn't realised it was going at the back/top, think this must be pretty sudden because it was fine up there in the summer. Though I've been receding I've probably been in denial I guess. Get the odd comment from people but I've just laughed it of.
I'm not freaking out or anything, much worse things to happen than losing your hair right. And looking at the pictures of all you guys being sly bald really suits ya all. Thing is I'm not really sure the bald look is going to suit me. Have always spiked my hair up, is my thing. And I did one of the bald booth pictures on an iphone and I looked rubbish without hair!
After having a laugh with my barber about it I asked if he though I should clip it really short but he said it was fine. Though he would say that right, doesn't want to lose a customer! And to be honest there aren't many people I can ask to give me an honest opinion on the state of my baldiness. So I guess I've come to ask for objective opinions on:
Is there a way to tell if going sly/getting a really short clipper cut will suit my face/head, without getting one?
Is my hair loss at the point where I should be buzzing it really short anyway?
Be honest guys! I'm not going to be offended or anything.
Will try and upload some pics.
Cheers guys

Shave your head, and keep it shaved. It would look good on you(and yes I say that to everyone). Embrace the bald look, thats all I can say

You have really strong features. Either of a buzz or complete shave will suit them well.
Give it a try. You have nothing to lose. (It grows back!)

Crowie, it doesn't look that bad to me....I would go with a short buzz just to get started....and when you do the deed, a nice goatee or beard would complement your newly bald head! Good luck, man!

Welcome to the forum, Crowie.
Like the man said, get the clippers out and go for some kind of skinhead. Say a number 4.

Welcome to the forum!
The pictures are pretty clear: you're thinning. But it's not the end of the world.
You can either try a shorter cut or shave it. So, if you're thinking about that then now is the right time to do it.

Welcome to SBG. Yup mate, it's time to buzz it shorter, shorter (while you and everyone adjust) and then try the razor smooth sly look for 30 days. You will wonder why you waited so long. Good Luck. Cheers !

Hello fellow Brit!
It's a personal choice, I se loads of guys your age with similar hairstyles, but like some of the others have said, try buzzing it down and see how you feel, go shorter each time till you are happy with the length.
Let us know how you get on!
