Im looking for any advice on how to give up smoking once and for all, whenever I quit I always seem to start again no matter how long Ive been without for. Ive given up for 3 years, 8 months and most recently 2 months. Ive been smoking for almost 10 years now (on and off) which if you know my age is very bad.
I need to give this up before it seriously affects my health.
Its now been 6 hours since I last smoked and I want to smoke to be quite honest, I always want one after Ive eaten, but Im going to bed early as Im tired so wont be able to smoke till tomorrow morning as I dont have any cigarettes.
The biggest problem though is work, my work colleagues all go outside together to smoke and have a chat, so Im going to have to stay inside twiddling my thumbs

p.s. I cant chew gum as it causes my stomach to kick in and produce more acid which is already a problem.
Just remember... Quitters never win and winners never quit!

Wish I could help you out, but I'm in the same boat... I swear off the smokes and always pick them back up!

I quit smoking 19 years ago after smoking for over 20 years. I went to a private hypnotist. It is not a miracle, you have to work at it but it worked for me. It is a commitment as well back then it was $175 and 3 hours of my time. I felt horrible for 3 days or so but never smoked or been tempted to smoke since. I fact, I cannot stand smoke and can smell a smoker across a room.
Chewing on plastic straws or swizzle sticks can help with the oral. AS to your stomach acid smoking may be causing /aggravating it. ( See your doctor about possible Acid Reflux Disease ( I have it) As for your colleagues, surely not every one smokes at your work. Believe me soon, you and the other non smokers will soon consider smokers as stupid idiots who willfully abuse there bodies. There, thats my experience. Good luck to you
i smoked for 24 yrs

i can't believe i was that stupid to smoke that long...i realized that in order to have a chance at maybe saving my own life it was time to quit....its been a year and half now since i quit.....i dont ever plan on going back to it......i took zyban for 2 weeks and it worked like a charm.but if your not ready to quit..you'll never do it...you have to be ready to leave it alone.
i save over a $100 a month
my breath doesnt smell like a sh*t filled ashtray lol
my clothes smell clean
my house smells clean
chicks dig a non smoker
smoking is going to be a thing of the past...something that people will look at and say "wow can you believe people used to inhale smoke in their lungs for fun?"
If you quit, you will have better and more sex! Smoking greatly decreases the blood to all the important organs! Might help if you think of that.
Try replacing the habit with another, more healthy habit. Try running or working out. A friend of mine would drink a bottle of water every time he wanted to smoke.

Great advice. I also would like to add that I stopped in January, but I keep some almonds in my desk for the cravings as well as drink water. Mainly keeping busy at work helps alot, rearange your work area, or for fun and grins rearrange a coworkers work area while they are smoking. I did this several times and blamed the cravings
i am going to the doctor tomorrow and getting a new medicine to help with quitting. it is called CHANTIX. a good buddy of mine quit after 20 or so years. everyone i have talked to that tried has good things to say about it. i will start another thread and keep yall updated.
good deal paulie..theres no better time to quit than now
Take your will power and go with it! I don't smoke but I chewed for 15 years. I just recently quit again and this time it is for good since a good friend of mine (fellow dipper) had his stomach removed and will not make it through the year. What a wake up call for me as I want to stay around awhile longer to see my kids grow up and aggravate my wife some more.
Do it for youself...you can do it....I KNOW YOU CAN!!
(if all else fails remember... I have the words biggest extinguisher to put them out for ya)
Its now been 29 hours since Ive smoked, I think its about 48 or 72 hours until your body kicks the addiction but you still need things to replace the physical side so things like chewing gum(which I cant do) or rubix cube, which Im considering
I went to a private hypnotist
Im abit dubious about hypnotherapy, so I dont really see that as an option.
I do need to go to the doctor about the stomach, the acid reflex thing does ring true, a doctor once told me it could be an ulcer.
your almost there, KEEP IT UP
Wintergreen. Eat wintergreen lifesavers. Wintergreen curbs cravings. It's a fact.

And I chewed sunflower seeds the one time that I quit, they helped keep me occupied instead of smoking.
I have been quit for over 13 years now. I smoked for over 20. It is hard to quit and even harder to stay quit. I wish you the very best. If I can ...You can! I still could but, will not. They stink!
