The thing is, he does have a little bit of fuzz there, toward the crown area. And I can say from personal experience that I didn't realize how much I'd thinned out in that area until I had a wake-up call like his. If you touch your crown and you can feel some hair, you don't necessarily realize how thin it is.
That being said, mine was nowhere near as gone as his is. And his hairline is completely gone, so losing it in the back is actually an improvement as it evens things out a bit.

I am with you. I was kidding a little bit about the scratching. Since I noticed the first signs of receding I constantly tried to find out what's going on up there. Taking a photo or what else was usefull to check it out. So i thought in his stage he might have done that as well, or so. Good for him obviously being not as obsessed as i was/am.
I've got that Photo from a girlfriend, she caught me while taking a photo. It was also like a "whats going on there" moment. I haven't felt it like that.

and i am with you as well about when things evens out a bit, that's me like 4 years ago.

That Hairline sucks.

Photos like that are a true eye-opener because they're often quite different from what we see in the mirror. Lighting can play a huge role. I was pretty obsessive about checking for a bald spot on the crown, and I
still managed to miss it. It was never actually slick bald before I started shaving, but it had thinned out more than I realized. A photo similar to what you posted is what made me realize how far gone things were.

It does suck. I was rapidly heading in that direction and decided to start shaving before I actually reached that point. There's really nothing else that can be done with that level of recession. Even buzzing it short doesn't work, IMO because that high hairline is still visible.
If I'd had a choice, I would much rather have dealt with an ever-expanding bald spot at the crown instead of a receding hairline.

Think people go through denial when it comes to balding.
Looking back at pictures just before I started shaving my head, I really had receded on top. At the time, I told myself it was "a little thin".
