I'm a practical guy who gets annoyed at things I have to worry about.  I wasn't sure whether I was balding or not, which was something I never worried about before.  So I was drawn to shaving my head to remove that concern and go back to normal.  I went back to normal and then some.

I just turned 26 and my hairline was receding, it was annoying.  So boom off the hair went.  At the same time i have a friend in chemo, so i was able to do it for him and me.  I made 2 people happy :)

But basically though, you have to do it for yourself.  It will make you feel better about yourself and thats whats most important.  If anyone makes a huge deal over it then they arent worth your time.  In the grand scheme of things it really isnt a big deal

I waited far too long to take the plunge.

I think Im going for it too early, but I dont want the hassle

I wasn't sure whether I was balding or not

Then why did you take rogaine and propecia?? Just a little bemused by this.

Im quite sure it will.

They are worth my time when they are my parents and my grandparents!! They are all very old fashioned, I think I remember my Gran saying that only thugs and convicts shave their heads.

p.s. Im not shaving my head yet, Im just going to buzz it down to a 1 or 2. This is a big step for me as I have never buzzed it before, I used to have my hair down to my eyebrows and then spike it.

Too early is far superior to too late.

My Dad has full head of hair that recedes!
No comment from him! He says its my head!
I respect my parents and alot of my relatives,
they respect what I want to do as long as it doesn't
hurt me or anyone else!
I think you have to do what is best for you, bless
grandpa's and grandma's they we're always on me about something!
But loved them dearly! And they loved me dearly!
Go for it!!! Respect Gran and help explain!! O0

I'll be 27 in July and I've been shaving my head for almost five years now.  I started because of some noticeable thinning around the crown of my head.  Shaving just seemed to be the best solution.  I didn't ease into it either.  I went from hair that was several inches long on top and a number 2 guard on the sides to totally bald overnight.  I got some reactions at work the first day I showed up bald but it was mostly because of the sudden change.  It didnt' take long before people were telling me that the look suits me and now I wouldn't dream of growing it back (which is good because it's even thinner up top than it was back then).

well i'm 22 and have been sly for about 2 months. I did it cuz i was losing my hair and thought it looked ridiculous so i figured i'd just hack it all off. I like it around my family and friends but when i go out i always seem to end up wearing a hat. but i'm slowly getting used to it. I remember the shower after going sly for the first time. The water on my scalp felt so intense i just started laughing. hahah

For me, it was just the opposite.  I felt totally at ease showing my smooth dome to complete strangers, but felt extremely self-conscious around family and friends.

[quote author=RazorX link=topic=1808..  Once you get the notion in your head to go sly, there is no peace until you do it.  Once it's done, you feel a whole lot better.  Get your friends to do it for you if that's what it takes to get there.

On the "head" Razor, on the HEAD.  I think every Sly guy will remember that day because once it's done, all the good things are real, and the anxiety about friends, shaving daily, etc. are gone.  Buzz is a good way, at least it was for me, although it only lasted a little over a month!  Once I was down to 1/8", the final act was only three or four days away.  LIBERATING.

I'm 25 and I've been losing hair for several years.  I've been wanting to shave it bald for about 2 years, but was on the fence and never got the courage to do it.  I shaved it off about a week ago and I loved it from the very beginning.    I wish I would have done it 2 years ago when I first thought about it.  My advice to you is to go ahead and do it.  It will always grow back if you don't like it and you won't be on the fence for 2 years like I was.  On a side note I went with normal length to bald in one step.  I buzzed my hair before and I didn't like the looks of it at all.   I think the bald look is a big improvement over buzzed.  If you buzz your head first it may not be a true representation of how you will look bald.  Just take the plunge you won't be sorry.

hey,

I remember that second night after i shaved it, i was on this site and reading how everyone talks about more confidence, a better feeling, etc. I felt like it was great motivation but frankly some grade-a bullsh*t. Let me tell you I was completely WRONG....these guys were absoluty right! (i apologize now for thinkin otherwise) about a week to two weeks in, I felt as if there was a complete new person within me. I DID feel more confidence, i felt better, i thought i looked better. And the dating scene improved for me like night and day.

-Leo

See now...Leo....Im glad you typed this up.....cause you said it exactly how everyone will or probably will feel...well some of us.  I felt the same way.  In no way shape or form will i ever change it.   I like it too much. Besides...if I were to let it all grow back out i bet you it would all be grey.

Another thing Leo wrote:....................................
"After you shave, the first few days you will have regrets. I REALLY regreted the decision. I thought my shaved head looked horrible. It was misshaped, to white, bumpy, etc. It was all in my mind tho. No one else thought those thoughts except me. Now i dont regret it. At ALL...." Leo

Thats another thing...i really didnt want to come out of the bathroom.  Well my bathroom is up stairs ...one door....no way out other than the fire escape.  I bet I stood in there for an hour just looking and my mind was churning on what i was going to say when I went down stairs to where the family was waiting for me to finish getting ready.  I just wanted to bail out of there somehow....but didnt know how to cover it up ya know...but to this day...NO REGRETS AT ALL.  IM LOVIN IT....

this thread was started nearly a year ago (!!) but the stories are certainly still relevant.

i'm almost 22, and this summer all of a sudden my hair just seemed to be falling out, and quite rapidly at that. i've loved wearing hats most of my life, so i was able to just forget about it for a while, but then i realized i can't wear a hat ALL the time. so, i took my clippers out and buzzed my golden locks off. the relief was instantaneous. i began obssesively researching balding and tried to figure out if it was just stress or (oh no!) the dreaded mbp. being young, and with no family history of mbp, i decided that it would all grow back, i just needed to give it time.

well, this past fall i tried letting it grow to see what would happen, but i wasn't pleased. it wasn't terrible i s'pose. my hairline wasn't receding, there was just some deforestation going on up top. most people were just like "weird, you're hair is lighter (colored) on top" but all i could think of was looking like a 21 year old bozo the clown. it became winter time, so i just forgot about it for a while (classes and such) and just wore a winter cap most of the time.

anyways, i fortunately found this site pretty early in my struggles and it helped me deal with some of the emotional aspects of my thinning hair, and, most importantly, helped me realized i was not alone! i buzzed my hair w/ a #0 in early december to test out the waters again, but knowing i really wanted to just shave it.  the only reason i didn't shave it was because it's winter and i reasoned i would wait for warmer weather.

well, over break i just got bored and reallllly wanted to shave it off, so i bought some new blades for my mach3 and went to town. personally, i'm very pleased with the results and very excited to go back to school and show it off. i wish i went to school somewhere a bit warmer, because its likely that i'll need to wear a hat to class simply out of necessity rather than vanity.

If you get a chance post up some pics.  Before and After would be cool.

Well Ive been losing my hair since i was about 19 and am now 25. Never really had any problems with it tho to be honest.

I started trimming it and went really short until a day ago i went sly. And i will certainly keep doing it  :@`.

Just shave it and if you really dont like it, then it will grow back.

Greetz.
