Hey there J_B
Bit of a long intro, but forgive me, I just feel like sharing...
I was once a keen amateur photographer after receiving a 3.2 meg digital camera as a 2003 Christmas present from my beautiful wife. I spent many hours enjoying the beauty of photography, especially with the advent of Photoshop and programmes, the like. I enjoyed portraiture, landscapes and abstract stuff around my garden, and anywhere basically...
Then my good friend, a professional photographer introduced me to the world of wedding photography, allowed me to carry his bag at weddings after I was blown away with the potential of his trade. I learned the wedding photography craft after many hours of hard work, something that I am eternally grateful for...
I purchased some awesome equipment, Nikon body’s, all the digital goodies, and turned it into my own little side business as a wedding and portraiture photographer.
I had a fantastic life experience doing it for four years, the money was good, but between my full time job, sitting in front of a PC all day, then sitting and editing at night, not to mention that your Saturdays are not your own, putting my own albums together, I eventually found it too consuming. Being a bit of a perfectionist, I found it quite stressful at the best of times. I eventually hung up my camera (Digital and 35mm, I agree, that format is not yet dead!) and sold some awesome lenses.
Photography will always stay in my heart, but I have not the head nor the nerve to pursue it professionally, I am not ashamed to admit. I also learned that sadly, sometimes a passion can be tainted by money.
Now my photography is limited to my cell phone, only for fun...which is just fine
What type of photography do you enjoy?
What camera do you have, let me guess, Nikon, or Canon?
Hey JB: Welcome back brah. Don't be such a stranger.

I will admit some get burned out of the business, after 40 yrs behind the camera, have yet to get burned out.. I guess its just my

and passion for it. Someday you will get a hankering for it again, I hope. If you have an artistic eye, you can create some awesome stuff. Many a photographer is happy with developing awesome work and just finding a gallery to hang their work in, occasionally swapping out the lingering ones for more snappy workflow stuff to rotate your work.
I do most landscapes, seascapes and nature with a few weddings here and there. I have work hanging in a restaurant gallery in Bigfork, MT
My DSLR is a Canon EOS 30D with a Canon EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM lens (crop factor of 1/6th)
My SLR is a Minolta XE-7 35mm (full frame no crop factor) with these lenses, Rokkor-X 85mm f/1.7, Rokkor-X 300mm f4.5, Tokina AT-X 35-70mm f/2.8, Soligor Tele-Auto f/2.8 (with the adapter I use these same lenses with the Canon EOS 30D)
Bridge Camera a Fuji HS20EXR, fixed 30X 24 - 720mm lens
I am never without a camera handy, and will work it even in the middle of the night for some real awesome shots.

I will be out for most of this week, as we head over to Helena, MT tomorrow. I'm having a CAT scan on my stomach, as they don't know why I'm pretty sick 24/7. They already ultra sounded my gallbladder but found nothing there wrong, then I meet with a op doc to discuss the surgery the next morning to repair a hernia at my navel.
At least I will be able to lift my camera after.....
J_B,
First, I hope all goes well with your CAT scan and that you are soon on the mend.
I, too, still use film, which is increasingly hard to find if you are in a pinch. I had a Minolta XG-7 that I bought when I was just out of college. That camera took wonderful photos and travelled on every trip with me. It also documented both of my daughters lives. After nearly a quarter century of superb service, it's light meter failed in 2003 and I replaced it with a Canon. I'm on the verge of converting over to digital solely for convenience. I still love using a film camera and working on compositions (when you had to worry about how much film you had with you, you were more careful about shots!)
By the way, I still have the lenses from the Minolta if you know anyone who wants them.
What lenses do you have? I'm looking for a wide angle lens 17-35mm or so.
I have an MD/MC Minolta to Canon EOS with Glass that lets me use all Minolta lenses, but have to focus manually. Not a problem there, since I have been manually focusing for many years. Auto Focus is faster I must say, but the crop factor leaves me to still shoot full frame film. Its not that hard to have Costco expose the roll, then scan the negatives to DVD for under $5.00
I can still get what 35mm film I need locally both in Color or B&W or can order it at
Mel Pierce Camera or another outlet that I know. There is an article in Popular Photography this month's new issue the Film Lives Pg 64
But yes, I could be very interested in your Minolta lenses
I'll drop you a pm with the details on the lenses.
Now here is some wild life for you......
I used a Rokkor 300mm f/4.5 lens with an MD/MC to EOS adapter on my Canon EOS 30D tonight at my daughters.

Hope all goes Well J_B. Nice photos.
