Hi ProphetNoir: Thanks for sharing your SOTD. May I ask you how you use an alum block? I know I can google it but it is so much better hearing the info from a brother in sly.

Warhawk, I use an alum block at the end of my shave.
After rinsing all remaining lather from my face with cold water, I leave my face wet and wet the Block under the running, cold tap water.
I rub the block all over the shaved area. It can sting a little, but that is also good way to judge your technique.
I take a few minutes to clean up my brush and the sink and my scuttle before rinsing away the alum residue with cold water and patting my face dry.
I follow that with witch hazel and let that air-dry before applying my after shave balm.
Now, can you help me to attach pictures to my posts?

Hey ProphetNoir: Thanks so much for the Alum Block info. As far as posting pics the best way I post pics is thru "tapatalk". It is kinda difficult posting pic without using the tapatalk app. If anyone can chime in on posting please help ProphetNoir. However...I find the tapatalk app the easiest in posting pics.

Thanks guys. I realize you can keep a well trimmed, shaped and maintained beard/goat, but truthfully, I am tired of it. It would be nice to not worry about how I am going to tackle the beard every morning. Not that I want to rush a shave, but it would be nice to run the razor over the head and face without worrying about accidentally cutting into the whiskers, then having to reshape the whole thing to make it symmetrical. Lazy, maybe. Tired of it, most definitely.
Maybe later when I get tired of a plain face.

Hello DCSlyOne,
Have you considered shaving in the evening as an alternative? Maybe not every evening, but often enough that you wouldn't have to feel so rushed as you do in the mornings?
By the way, DC is one of my favorite places. I lived there for 30 years and I miss it every single day.

Prophet, I sometimes shave at night on weekends, but that is mainly to go out afterward. My hair grows fast, so if I shave at night, by the next morning, I have some stubble. I'd like to greet the day with a smooth melon and mug. If these DE shaves are as awesome as guys are talking about, then maybe I won't have to deal with morning stubble.
BTW, read your post on another thread concerning the mixing of shaving cream and shaving soap, and the results you had. Maybe that would help?
I have lived in DC for 17 years, and it is a great city. If you are ever in town, let me know.

DCSly,
Mixing soap and cream with a brush - superlather - usually results in a slicker, more comfortable shave, but I doubt that it will slow the growth. I suspected that a quick growing beard might defeat the time advantage gained from shaving at night.
As you already know, a proper DE shave requires a minimum of two passes and as many as four passes for the truly dedicated. It's almost a lifestyle. I get by with two passes most of the time and sometimes I just do a single pass if I don't plan on making any appearances, but still need to be shaved so my face doesn't start to itch.
For special occasions I will do a three pass shave with the best of what I have regarding soaps and after shaves. I take my time at every phase from the building of my lather to the alum block rubdown. A three pass shave will usually last me for a good 18 hours before I start to feel enough stubble for another shave.
Obviously, you will decide about how best to handle your facial hair quandary. As long as you enjoy the ritual, and it doesn't become a chore.

Today's SOTD....
Head shave: shower
Razor: Weber ARC
Blade: Gillette 7 o'clock blacks
Soap: Mike's Natural Soap
Brush: Semogue 620
Nice, relaxing DE shave. Enclosed is a pic of my new $1.50 shaving bowl (Walmart). It is actually a sturdy salsa bowl that I converted to a shaving bowl.

Head (at sink)
Razor : SABI Double Edge Safety razor
Blade : Astra Superior Platinum
Soap : Supermax shaving cream
Brush : Tweezerman
A/S : Brut “Spirit”
Face (at sink)
Razor : Gillette SS Flare Tip Double Edge Safety razor
Blade : Supermax Titanium
Soap : Supermax shaving cream
Brush : Tweezerman
A/S : Brut “Spirit”
Comments;
The Astra SP’s are the best blades for my head shave, by far. The shave is the closest that I get from any other blade, including the Headblade, leaving my dome as smooth as glass.
If I could, I would buy myself an endless supply.

Hi Harry: No problem, I am just glad that U have decided in taking the plunge towards the traditional way of shaving. There is nothing more relaxing and therapeutic of a safety razor shave. Just ask me and the other sly safety razor brothers on the forum.
