I know this movie was out a while back but I just watched it on video with my wife and kids.
OUTSTANDING!!!!! This is one of the best movies I've seen in a very long time. The subject matter is serious but there are some good laughs too. My skin crawled more than once with the use of the "N" word but when you watch this movie it WILL be worth it! I hate that word and was grateful when my daughter told me she had never heard that word before watching this movie. I explained to her why that word is so bad and should NEVER be used. She was appalled when I told her the history of the word.
My 10 year old daughter and 15 year old son turned me onto the movie so I was skeptical but man is it worth the time to watch. You know.... some kids just "get it"...... and thankfully my kids are two of those kids.
Watch this film gentlemen!
It is a remarkable story, I had read the book and then saw the movie. For folks raised in the South in the 50's, 60's & 70's, it can be a remarkable recollection of their own past in so many ways. It was a story that really needed to be told.
I got a particular kick out of the "Chocolate Pie" scene. Some things are just, well, right.

I was just about to mention that scene!

I agree. It was one of the best movies I've seen in a while, and after watching it, I knew one or both of the Oscar-nominated actresses would win. I hoped both would, but I'm glad Octavia Spencer got it for Supporting Actress. She truly deserved it, IMO. Great performances all the way through.
Thanks Mike: I will definitely put that on my list.
WARHAWK
Must go and see it when it comes this side of the pond
I love the South but that is just a part of a shameful story that they have to live with.
Yes, a great film. Felt like they made the White women seem a bit one dimensional though...
